Dr. Shailesh Kumar Gupta, MD

My grandmother had a 2:30 appointment at the Retina Specialty Center. She waited two hours before her name was called. I asked the receptionist, Shameka, where she was in the queue. She pointed to the sign near the desk—which reads, “please expect to be here 2-3 hours for your appointment.” My grandmother is diabetic. Her blood sugar was also incredibly low. I was standing in the hallway. The office administrator, Michelle, stood three inches from my face & told me to sit in the lobby. I asked her to give me space. When my grandmother asked Michelle to move, that she’d waited for two hours, she responded her, “that is irrelevant—she needs to sit in the lobby.” Arms crossed, inches away from my face, Michelle pointed at the door to, as she put it, “go.” A nurse ushered me in the room with my grandmother. As the nurse tried to help my grandmother, Michelle came in to tell us she was calling the police. The police. My grandmother is 71. Seventy-one, with a birthday the day… before. After a two-hour wait, an office administrator was threatening to call the police on my grandmother. I told Michelle to leave, as she was making my grandmother upset. She was incredibly unprofessional. Dr. Shaileth Gupta came in. He said we were making too much noise. He said he had other patients. According to Gupta, if we didn’t have a quiet conversation, we’d have to leave. I gathered my grandmother’s belongings, and walked her to her car. Dr. Gupta & (most) of his staff treated us with such disdain and disregard. There were 8-9 older patients who arrived before us, who were still waiting once we left. There are 16 chairs in this office, and 20-25 elderly people at any given time. Upon entry, an older Asian woman with a walker was leaving. None of the staff held a door for her to exit. My grandmother cried in the car. Before departing, I asked what Michelle's name was. I was told it was Linda. The next day, I called to retrieve her actual nomenclature. I searched Dr. Gupta's office online to locate the number. I found a number of reviews claiming Dr. Gupta has performed several unnecessary procedures on the elderly. Some questioned his credentials. His staff’s demeanor, and their lack of care and concern for the job is disheartening.

Very poorly managed. No thought or effort given to manage office efficiently. Patients spend hours waiting in 1 of 2 waiting rooms for procedures or tests that take less than 5 minutes. This lack of respect for the value of patient’s time infuriates me. Very unprofessional operation. I would avoid at all costs.

Dr. Gupta and staff are professional and warm.

Wonderful experience, Dr Gupta gave me best advice for my vision as well as eye glasses. The staff is very professional and friendly. Highly recommended.
