Dr. Stuart Robert Winthrop, MD

I am a retired anesthesiologist and went to the best cataract surgeon in Santa Barbara, Dr. Stuart Winthrop. My result was excellent and no complications. I highly recommend Dr. Winthrop.

I am extremely grateful to Dr. Stuart and the whole team at his office! I have been wearing glasses/contacts since 3rd grade, and would not be able to see clearly past 6 inches in front of my face without them. Needless to say, my eyes were TERRIBLE. What impressed me the most about Dr. Stuart and his team was the care that I felt throughout the entire process - booking my appointment, final measurements, explanations of how the procedure would go - Claudia, Jeff, Dr. Stuart - they are all WONDERFUL. During the actual procedure, Dr. Stuart verbalized everything for me as I was going through it, even checking in to see how I was doing/feeling and to take deep breaths. I honestly felt so calm during the process because of his attention to my well-being. He called that evening to check in to see how I was doing, and my one day check up was a success at 20/20 vision!! Seriously. I can't believe these are my eyes that are seeing this good - better than I did with glasses or… contacts! I am recommending everyone I know that suffers from poor vision to go see Dr. Stuart and consider LASIK. I'm 29, and have a whole life ahead of me to 'look' forward to (pun intended) because of this surgery. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Making an appointment is unpleasant at best. Waited 6 hrs for someone to call me back. When I finally spoke to someone at the office to set up an appointment, the person was so insensitive / rude. I tried to report the incident, but my concerns were dismissed - basically told that I imagined it and that nothing would be done because nothing happened. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that the phone staff - actually anybody who works for a doctor's office, should be understanding and sensitive to the fears and apprehensions of potential surgical patients. If anyone needs kindness and understanding, those who are preparing for surgery do.

Dr Winthrop has been my opthamologist for nearly 30 years. He did Lasik on my left eye in the mid 90's.90's and my right eye done last week.

I saw Dr Winthrop twice. First time I was not impressed. Second time I felt rushed and he was brushing me off. He came across arrogent but the worse part was he misdiagnosed me. I would never use him again. He's works better with seniors so unless your frail and old, find someone else!

I saw this doctor on a commercial on TV and was really surprised because it showed him SMILING at a patient! This guy does not smile! I went to him twice and he was incredibly rude both times. I have absolutely no idea what the problem was, I was very nice to him. I spoke to some other patients and another doctor who told me that he is odd and not to take it personally. Needless to say, I got another doctor!

Dr. Winthrop was rude, uncaring, hurried, not interested in my eye problems or explaining anything. I had to run after him down the hall to ask questions. After my horrible experience with him, THREE other people (two who are doctors!)said this was typical and his personality was hard to predict. I never wanted to see him again and would NEVER refer him to anyone!

Knew just what my problem was right away. found out he was first in his class. staff is friendly & helpful.

As a med mal attorney I have shied away from elective surgery. I avoided the risks. I was reassured by Winthrop's track record. I am now glasses-free.I had a wonderful experience. Perfect vision. No dry eye or inconsistent vision. He also did my mother's cataract flawlessly. He was recommended by a top doctor in town who is also a friend. Winthrop has the 4th generation laser- nobody else does. All laser Lasik is all hype. I am treating my brother to lasik with Winthrop next!
