Dr. Thomas Gregory Mulligan, MD

I saw Dr Mulligan to check pressures in both eyes as in Florida a year prior I had a 1st time ever abnormal Glaucoma test. At Clearview I had an eye pressure test by Dr Mulligan’s Asst. Dr Mulligan returned to the exam room to inform me that I did NOT have ANY signs of Glaucoma but, had extensive Cataracts in both eyes and needed to schedule surgery with him ASAP. I asked “How can that be? Does glaucoma go away on its own in a years time & do surgery level cataracts develop within the same time frame?” (Not only was I shocked I was also confused as I had NO signs or symptoms of cataracts.) I asked what tests do we need to do to determine the extent of the cataracts as I do not have ANY signs of having cataracts. No response to my question. Instead, this Dr. asked did I work and asked about my medical insurance coverage to determine if the surgery would be covered,at what percentage & what my out-of-pocket costs would be. Then, he asked if I had the money in savings to cover my portion… of the surgery? Wait….What?!?! Why was he asking about my financial situation? He then looked in each eye for nearly 2 minutes each, going back and forth, back and forth. Very odd. It felt like he was stalling for some reason. He then got a pamphlet out of a top drawer in this exam room for a surgery credit plan service & wrote down the costs for cataract surgery, breaking down each eye surgery costs,the amounts covered by my insurance and my portion due. This struck me as very odd as most Physicians have little sense of medical insurance details as they leave the patient financial details to their administrative staff. (This was the only correct/honest service I received as he was correct in his payment calculations had I followed his game plan). I was in shock. How could I have cataracts & need immediate surgery?! It was all so overwhelming. I just needed to leave his office to sort this all out in my brain. Two weeks later a second opinion visit to an excellent Dr S. in Burien explained everything…I did NOT have cataracts…at all, but did still have glaucoma in both eyes with higher than normal eye pressures. I did NOT need eye surgery & to suggest so was criminal. Not only criminal, beyond the financial waste & insurance scam but, unnecessary surgeries puts a patient at risk for a multitude of problems including infection, potential damage to the eye, unwarranted medications, original eye complaint issues ignored, time away from work & family,etc. My story was NOT the first time a patient told a 2nd opinion eye Doctor about Dr Mulligans behavior, lack of appropriate healthcare while ignoring minor easily addressable typical eye problems while substituting simple and easy treatments for expensive surgeries with his intent driven by his monetary gains versus patient health. In fact, these stories are still shared in his office along with a number of new 2nd opinion patients consulting him regarding damages to their eyes & sight from surgeries performed by Dr Mulligan resulting in permanent eye damage, unresolved and worsening of their original eye complaints, etc. So, not only is Dr Mulligan performing these medically unnecessary surgeries he is performing the surgeries poorly. I am so grateful that I did not follow-up to schedule unnecessary surgery with the charlatan whose ONLY concern was his pocketbook! Beware-honesty, medical ethics, Physicans Oath of do no harm is far from what one will experience while consulting with Dr Mulligan.

This doc was awful. Besides very poor bedside manner, he dialated my eyes without talking to me about driving or my needs to leave (I was there for eye redness). He then leaves and says he will be back in few minutes and doesn't return. 20 min later, I tell front desk I have to leave to get my child from school. Mind you I am 65 min in my appointment and really should be done. The front desk says they are not sure how to bill my appointment if I leave. And I told another staff I had to leave in 15min. And she said she find this doc and he was completing another appointment. Medical negligence in my opinion as I was left with worse eye sight from when I came in from him dialating my eyes. I had to drive and it was scary. Do not recommend this doc. Also found out 2 separate ppl I know met with him and had terrible experiences as well, saying he is rude and awkward....seems to be building himself a bad reputation in west seattle.

I found him one of the rudest Doctors I”be ever known. I waited an hour to finally see him & when I told him he said haven”t I waited this long before? I said no so he proceeded to tell me to get another doctor & stormed out of the room telling me to get my money back & find another doctor!

I made an appt with Dr. Mulligan's practice in hopes of finding relief from severe eye irritation and frequent blurriness that coincides with the severe neuropathy I experience due to chemotherapy for cancer treatment (my oncologist agrees with the correlation, and suggested I see an opthalmologist).. I made the appointment with Mulligan's office and stated my problem. At the appointment I carried with me a short printed paper listing my side effects: neuropathy in hands, feet, and mouth, and severe eye irritation. I presented the printout, along with an extensive list of my medications to the intake assistant, which she copied and also entered into their data base. I again specifically stated why I was there - to see if any relief for my eyes was possible. Dr. Mulligan then came in and proceeded to examine my eyes. His only question to me, other than what I saw on his eye charts, was what I did for a living..No other questions, which I thought odd. He then leaves the room, returns… with a prescription for eyeglasses, and tells me the prescription is virtually the same as the last prescription he gave me 2 or 3 years prior (I've never worn the glasses, as they made no noticeable difference in my eye site). I then ask him what, if anything, he can do about my condition, and he tells me I'll have to make another appointment to discuss that. He tells me the eye exam he just performed doesn't include my problem. I then ask him if there is anything that can be done and he tells me that, yes, there is something but I will have to make another appointment! Last time my family ever steps into that practice, I found him indifferent and dismissive. I will not recommend his practice to anyone. I've found another opthalmologist and hope to have a better experience, even if it turns out that nothing can be done.

He saved me from having erroneous cataract surgery. I am very grateful for his correct diagnosis of my rare vision problem in both eyes and surgeries he preformed that corrected what was actually wrong with my eyes.

I went in for a follow-up appt after trying some eye drops to reduce eye pressure. This appt. was to see if the drops Dr. Mulligan prescribed worked for me in reducing eye pressure. At the previous appt. when he first determined I should try the eye drops, he specifically told me that I did not have glaucoma, just a higher eye pressure than it should be and he thought it would be best to treat it. At this follow-up appt. I was taken to a room for a test for peripheral vision which I had recently taken. I asked why this test was being done and the assistant told me I had glaucoma. I told her I did not, that Dr. Muilligan had told me specifically that I did not on my last visit. When I finally saw Dr. Mulligan he was rude and dismissive. He now told me I did have glaucoma! When I told him he had told me I did not have glaucoma on my last visit, he acted insulted and told me that now he thought I did have it. What???? I told him I did not appreciate hearing that diagnosis from… his assistant, especially since he told me that I did not have it last time I saw him. Then he went on to tell me it was all in my mind that the lid swelling I was experiencing since taking the drops was my imagination! My eye lid was swollen and when I stopped taking the eye drops for a day or two, the lid swelling went away. He told me it was just that I was looking at my lid more closely and that is why I was thinking that my lid was swollen.... Huh?!? It was very noticeably puffy and drooping down! The whole appointment was so bizarre. He totally dismissed me, would not adequately answer my questions and told me he didn't care and that if I went blind, that was my problem. WOW! That is all I can say! I have never been so poorly treated by any doctor in my whole life!

Dr Mulligan is incredibly rude and dismissive. I had some question about his conduct during surgery. As he was operating on my eye he carried on a long conversation with one of the nurses about his personal investments. Then during a follow up visit, I was asking a few questions about my eye surgery and he proceeded to tell me in a rather unpleasant manner, that most women of my age do nothing but complain. I told him I was not complaining at all, I just wanted to understand my condition. He just dismissed my questions and became totally defensive and rude. He yelled at me, stating that, he was the doctor and I just had to trust him, and quite asking questions. I have never been treated with such disrespect. I will never go to this man again. I would never, never recommend him. If I could give him a -star I would.
