Dr. Duby Edith Avila, MD

Dr Avila, was my pain mgmt Dr, for several years. When I 1st started seeing her, she was very pleasant, cared, good bedside manners, and most of all she listened. She now rushes you out, and cuts you off, tells you that she has other patients to see, and walks out the exam room. I've never gone to a doctors office to socialize, I go to a doctors office to talk about my ailments! She refused to change my meds. If you've taken pain meds you know that your body builds a tolerance. I gave up asking, her and started searching for a new doctor. Her staff are the RUDEST with a few exceptions, that I've ever dealt with. They slam the phone in your ear! They leave you on hold for more than 15 mins, or just never come back on the phone. Trying to get copies of your medical history is a joke! Leaving a message for a staff member to call you back.....well forget about that. Spoke to the her about all this, and I was the liar! She believed her staff and not the patient! Another major problem is… that if you don't speak Spanish, you're looked down on! I would NOT RECOMMEND her to anyone! Read other reviews cause it's not just me!

do not send the elderly to her. She will prescribe Percocet as if they were candy. Without getting them checked, without follow up by Cardiologist and other physicians to help against side effects of abuse. My father was hospitalized with congestive heart failure/bradycardia. Which can be caused by overuse of opioids. She has had him on opioids for many years. And when I asked her why she was giving him so much opioids and morphine that I would like to cut back on it her answer to me was he is 86 years old for what his life has left why take him off. That coming off of it would do him more harm than staying on it. She would give him 3 or 4 prescriptions and date it for the future. Which I didn’t think was even legal. But since he came out the hospital and I called to let them know that it was recommended to get off the opioids morphine she and her staff have been rude to us. She had Percocet for my mother too. since my father she pulled it from Pharm. Odd behavior?

Run somewhere else this doctor is a liar do not even know how to speak English. She is rude and treat patients like you are a ghetto. Do not know where she got her license, her office should close down. No sympathy for her patients.

Dr. Avila Is one of the most thorough positions I have ever seen in my 73 years! My 1st visit with her, she spent about 1 1/2 hours with me!! Unheard of in today's world! She covered everything There was to cover about my medical history then discussed with me issues such as my wait, what time I went to bed, my exercise program, effects of my arthritis/sciatica & what I can do about it. She fully believes and a philosophy of rehabilitation and have a physical therapy department with in her office. She does so much more than prescribe pills. Also , She is a very warm and caring person with a good sense of humor. Every minute and her office was pure delight! The only complaint I have is that the 1st time I called I was put on hold for about 15 minutes. I don't know if there is a problem with her office staff, or if it was just a bad day. But I would recommend Dr. Avila to anyone who is looking for a caring, thorough and professional caregiver.

Just like a previous reviewer said, she used to make going to see her a wonderful experience. She would sit down and interact with my wife and myself - like a family. This past year or 2, she has changed and seems to fear the DEA. I have been on Tramadol from her for years, and recently the urine tests have not shown traces of it - so I am blamed for not taking it as prescribed and not complying with my contract with her. My wife attests I take one each night, and I even took one in front of Dr. Avila, then came back in a couple of hours to give a urine test - still negative! I don't know what's happening - but I should not be blamed as I feel I have been. I am now changing doctors. She sure is a changed doctor.

Dr. Avila takes her time to explain what is happening with my neck and why I am suffering the pain. She provided the right combination of injections as I can tell you that after a good night sleep, for the first time in 3 weeks, my pain level went from 9 yesterday afternoon to around 5 this morning. That level of pain I can manage. Thanks Dr. Avila for your great treatment and attention. Regarding her staff, I can tell you that all of them make my feel like at home every time I go to the office. For those that commented about the DEA I can tell that I submitted myself to her drug screening program as requested and never had a problem getting my pain medication prescriptions every time I go for my appointment.

Dr. Avila takes her time and listens to you. You never feel like you are being rushed and she is very down to earth. She makes sure you understand what is being done and why.

Dr. Avila used to be awesome. I remember how happy I was after my 1st visit with her. She actually listened and seemed to care about helping me live a somewhat normal life even though I suffer 24/7 with agonizing pain. Now however, Dr. Avila seems to only care about the DEA and other agencies. Her fear of losing her license has taken over and removed all of the kindness, caring, and compassion she once possessed. There are millions of people who suffer with chronic pain and the only thing that gives them a somewhat quality of life is taking pain medications. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is the same as those who suffer with diabetes needing insulin or heart patients needing high blood pressure medication. I feel as though Dr. Avila has forgotten her oath to do NO HARM. She needs to start treating patients like human beings and know that she has every right as a doctor to prescribe legitimate pain sufferers legitimate pain medications without losing her license. I… would take her license away for not prescribing patients what they need!! Please Dr. Avila become the Dr. I once knew and stop ruining lives with your fears which one day may even force one of your patients to take their own lives because they no longer want to live with their pain!! All I want to do is be a mother and wife and because of you not helping me I cannot do that. All I can do is lay in bed and suffer day and night!! And if you cannot let go of your fears and do the right thing for your patients then you should think about resigning as a doctor and do something else with your life that does not effect so many people!!

Please think very hard before you go to this doctor. I was treated very poorly after being a patient for 3 years. The office staff are very rude. They lie a great deal. The staff is very unprofessional and corrupt. They will do what they can to try and make you feel bad for something they have done wrong. Dr. Avila has serious issues. She suffered a stroke and obviously is not right. This entire office is a nightmare to deal with. BEWARE!!!! Especially if you don't speak spanish, you are treated differently.
