Dr. Edward Robert Smith, MD

Dr. Edward R. Smith, MD, MBA, is Vice Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, Co-Director of the Cerebrovascular Surgery and Interventions Center, and the R. Michael Scott Chair in Neurosurgery at Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as a professor of neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. Internationally recognized for his expertise in pediatric neurosurgery and cerebrovascular disease, he specializes in moyamoya disease, pediatric stroke, vascular malformations, brain tumors, aneurysms, and complex neurosurgical disorders affecting children. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his neurosurgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and postdoctoral research training in vascular biology. In addition to leading one of the nation’s largest pediatric cerebrovascular programs, he directs a translational research …laboratory focused on noninvasive biomarkers, angiogenesis, and novel therapies for pediatric brain tumors and stroke. Widely respected for his surgical expertise, research leadership, and compassionate, family-centered approach, Dr. Smith is dedicated to advancing innovative neurosurgical care and improving outcomes for children with complex neurological conditions.
