Dr. Elizabeth Ann Shuster, MD

Thorough and compassionate approach.

Went to see her after my physician moved his practice. She acted like I was an annoyance to her day. Spent less than 10 minutes with me and proclaimed her diagnosis and said that the other Drs at Mayo would not see me because I had migraines. I had gone there for a team approach - which is what they say they do. She then she set up a battery of tests without telling me. I got a call from Mayo about a week later asking why I was not at the MRI that had been scheduled for that day - no one had called to talk to me about it or find out what day I would be available and I did not receive any information about the MRI and other tests scheduled. Did she not get the memo that I have a brain injury and can't read minds?

Dr. Shuster is one of the most caring and professional doctors that we have visited since I have been diagnosed with MS. My original neurologist diagnosed me with a very mild case and referred me to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta GA. What a nightmare-we walked away from there being told he was not sure that I have MS. Our trip to the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Shuster was our tie breaker. Dr. Shuster spent over 1/2 hour asking my husband and I questions and examining me to formulate her own diagnosis. She was very compassionate understanding the doubt that we had been living with for several years had been tough on us. Her examination was very thorough. She sent me away for blood work and eye examinations. In the end, she confirmed that I do have a mild case of MS and my current treatment plan is appropriate. What a relief to know we are on the right path. We loved our experience at the Mayo Clinic! Our new dilemma is do we adopt Dr. Shuster as my ongoing neurologist!

I received an excellent reception at the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Shuster continued that wonderful experience. I have recently moved to FL from VA and Dr. Shuster reviewed my history of MS, conducted a series of MRIs to establish a baseline and advised me on my continuation of the Tysabri treatments. I am confident in and encouraged by her professionalism.

I was quite comfortable with Dr. Shuster. I found her to be open, forthright and did not pull punches. She said what needed to be said but with compassion and understanding. Because of Dr. Shuster, I know I made the right decision to go to Mayo.
