Eric Alexander Flounders

Resident Eric Flounders prescribed narcotic medications to a family member of mine in active addiction. They did not do a psychiatric hold when told patient was a danger to himself and failed to identify the cause of the injury was BECAUSE patient was a danger to himself. Released patient from ED under psychosis from narcotics for me to deal with at home even though I told resident doctor "if you're going to give him narcotics, be prepared to deal with his behavior". They gave him narcotics and discharged him, for me to deal with his behavior, at home. Due to his active substance abuse issues, if he requires narcotic medications he should have been admitted. Patient came home and further injured himself due to psychosis induced by narcotics. Doctor did not listen to family and broke his oath of "do no harm". He did harm. I have filed a complaint with patient relations and the medical board of california. UC Davis health needs to invest in providing their care teams with… substance abuse training. The neglect during last night's visit was disgusting. I dont want money, I want UC Davis to fix the problem they made worse, hold themselves accountable, reprimand said resident doctor, and provide proper training to their employees to identify patients with potential substance abuse issues and how to attempt to treat their pain without using narcotics as a first line of defense. This is not the first time I have been in the ED with this patient. This is my first experience with the ED flagrantly disregarding important previous health information, provided by the family, and my first time seeing a person with the power of a prescription pad so eager to prescribe a narcotic. I will not let this go, and will hold UC Davis accountable, should they refuse to do so themselves. NOWHERE in any of the patients medical charts does it mention that he has possible substance abuse issues, despite my making sure that registration, nurses, and doctors knew of the issue. UC DAVIS needs to implement a policy that NO resident doctor can prescribe narcotics to a patient, without a senior peer first physically examination the patient.
