Dr. Evelyn Abille Ely, MD

Dr. Ely stated multiple times, once no determination was made for my symptoms, and all tests provided returned negative results, that "it must be psychological." I feared she'd influence my medical care team, and compromise my care by making "aloud" random comments like that. When I requested my "vegan" multiple vitamin, stating that I need to take it daily, because it helps me feel better, she stated adamantly, "that's a placebo effect. You can miss 1 vitamin without feeling any effects. That's all in your head, a placebo effect." She refused to allow me to take it without even checking ingredients, insisting I didn't need it. To justify her opinion that my symptoms were "psychological", Dr. Ely actually sent a Psychosocial Oncologist to visit me, late in the evening, who asked very personal questions- where I was born, was my husband abusive, and the like- he concluded and told her that I'm suffering from PTSD! Ridiculous. He offered me medication during this visit, which I… readily refused, after his just meeting me for the first time, and talking to me for less than 10 minutes - although I told him I have no extreme anxiety on a daily basis, and live a happy, fulfilling life. This manner of practice should not be allowed, especially when patients admit through emergency with heart attack symptoms and elevated blood pressure which did not respond to their on-the-spot, prescribed medication. Dr. Elys attitude towards me and bedside manner made me feel very UNSAFE in her care, especially as a patient with my physical disposition. She was beyond despicable. Dr. Ely shared the Psychosocial Oncologist's conclusion-"PTSD, psychological," with me and my family. We all felt this was far off-center and a distraction from determining the REAL cause of my medical condition. I announced that I will discharge myself several times due to her treatment and attitude-only to see slight improvement in her behavior. I explained to her that she should listen to her patients, and be aware and at least consider that any information a patient gives may benefit in diagnosis and may/can also save their life. My frustration level continued to rise, which exasperated my condition involving an extremely elevated blood pressure, upon laying, sitting, and standing, reason yet remains unresolved. I believe I was discharged because I'd stated that I planned to leave in order to improve my health at home, which was steadily declining under Dr. Ely's care due to her inability to listen and her extremely rude, disrespectful demeanor. She desperately needs a class on how to behave professionally, how to speak to and listen to her patients. Although I applaud the rest of my medical team specialists, if I could, I'd rate Dr. Ely 0 stars. She definitely hindered patient stability and recovery.
