Dr. Fakhruddin A Rakla, MD

Dr. Rakla is the kind of doctor that radiates energy, and somehow makes you believe that you can be energetic as well. He takes the time to talk to you as he evaluates the reason for your visit, and comes up with the best solution for you current problem. He has an excellent staff,always friendly and easy to work with. Dr. Alim is also a doctor in his group and is highly thought of. If Dr. Rakla isn't available I would like to have the care of Dr. Alim.

Shortly after a hospital stay to fight the affects of severe blood poisoning, I was unable to breath and returned to the same hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Cardiologists, neurologists, toxicologists, pulmonologists and doctors of other disciplines were all over me attempting to determine why I wasn't breathing properly. After about three days Dr. F. Rakla introduced himself to me and asked if I wanted to know what was wrong with me . Of course I did, and he then showed me a picture on his tablet and told me that my lung scans looked exactly like the picture. Of all the doctors poking and prodding me he alone came up with what was wrong and identified the cause as well! I had been put on Amiodarone for A fib by a cardiologist after my first hospitalization. Some people do have a negative reaction to the drug known as Amiodarone Induced Pulmonary Toxicity and it is sometimes deadly! Dr. Rakla took me off that drug immediately and for the past year has been helping me… adjust to living with the problem. He amazes me with his vast knowledge and he stays up to date on new treatments as well, introducing me to a new drug that can either halt or severely hinder the spread of the disease. Dr. Rakla is highly recommended by me, a patient who may not have been here to write this note if not for him.

Dr. Rakla has been my pulmonologist for over 12 years. I was misdiagnosed by two other doctors as having a sinus infection. Dr. Rakla dug a lot deeper and scoped my chest and found I had A-typic TB. He immediately put me on antibiotics and sent me to TB specialists in Tyler TX. I eventually lost the upper lobes of both lungs, but if it hadn't been for Dr. Rakla's actions I wouldn't be here today. He is personable and attentive. I see him at least 6 times a year. I would recommend him to anyone.

I'm a COPD patient and have worked with 2 other Pulmonologists in the last 4 y ears. None compare to Dr. Rakla. His understanding of COPD is unsurpassed; his support staff are also above average and are seasoned professionals. If you have respiratory problems, Dr. Rakla is the best I've found in greater Houston.

Dr. Rakla has been treating my COPD for many years. He is very professional and well informed on current medical trends and medications. He promotes physical activity of any kind: walking, bicycling, etc. Questions any concerns I might have since the last visit and recommends solutions to assure me my condition is normal for my illness. He always has a positive attitude that is contagious. (Like all patients, I feel like I am competing with the laptop when Dr. Rakla updates my file, but we all appreciate the advances in the medical field -- even the electronic records!) He has a good supportive office staff, and they respect him.

I have been a patient of Dr Rakla for many years. I have Asthma and Sleep apnea and he has provided excellent care .

Does not listen to the patient. Interrupts and does not let patient finish sentence. Office is not clean especially waiting area. So glad I changed to Dr. group in the Medical Center or I feel I would be dead. Hospitalized 3 times in 3 years. They found antibiotic resistant antibiotic was causing the respiratory infection to keep coming back. Now I am well. Do not have a respiratory problem at all. No COPD, no Allergies, no bronchitis. A sinus infection that was caused by pseudomas and would spread to the respiratory tract. After correct antibiotic treatment I am fine now. There is a tremendous difference in Quality of Care. People come from all over the world to be treated at the Houston Medical Center. We are to close to settle for 3rd rate Drs. He even tried to tell me I could come to him for “all” my care. My family doctor had referred me to Dr Raka and then he is trying to take his patients. No thank you. Not for me I know better.

I felt like I wasn't given the chance to even finish my sentences with him when trying to tell him about what I was going through or family history of cancer. Extremely disappointed especially since I am a self paying patient! I took in two scans from the ER of a non calcified nodule that had grown almost double in size in less than a month and he said he didn't need to see the first one. Told me to wait to take another scan in 3 months. But of course if I wanted to pay 500+ dollars for a lung assessment test he could see me in two weeks. What a waste of my money and time. Never again!

I have Emph/COPD. Dr. Rakla always took great interest in my health, was easy to talk to, and made sure he went out of his way to keep me healthy, much more than just my breathing difficulties.

The doctor is very professional and very courteous ...he appears to be genuinely concerned about his patients and he has an outstanding nurse as well as administrative support staff. ALL HATS OFF TO THE STAFF. He has a way of putting you at ease and discussing with you.... your issues of concern and importance.... He makes you feel as though your concerns are seriously considered and that your medical needs are assessed and appropriate medical responses and treatments are provided. He is the type of person who appears to care and discuss with you things that bother or are important to you. As an added note he is an impeccable dresser as are his staff.....
