Dr. Frances Hui He, PhD

I've had a couple of therapy sessions with Dr. He on the phone (the only option she offered at the time). I would talk about what I was going through, and there were often long stretches of time (think 5 minutes) where there was simply silence on the other end and she would simply not respond. She was pretty obviously doing something else and not listening to what I had to say. In one of the worst periods of time in my life, she made me feel even more unheard.

I only had one initial phone session with Dr. He and this is what this review is based on. We were not a good fit but I wanted other consumers to be aware of her initial approach prior to potentially spending a good amount of money on a session. It felt like she spent the first 30 minutes of 45 minute session going over what I felt were logistics, going over insurance, how co-pays were to be done, going over her methods, reviewing my input paperwork and confirming information I had already provided, such as my profession and schooling. This did not feel like a productive or useful use of either of our time. Insurance and payment information could have easily been provided in an e-mail instead of wasting session time. What is more disconcerting is by the time she was done with all of that, we had 15 minutes of our session time left. I did not feel she made any effort to actually be productive in the time we had left, She even offered to end the session early if I felt that we didn't… have enough time left to address anything meaningfully. She has a set system in which she likes to operate, with an emphasis on "Scales (1-10)" and having you rate different emotional aspects of your life to see if you progress your "Scale" as you progress in therapy. I understand the desire to want to have measurable progress, however when confronted with the idea that I was not comfortable using markers like that, she seemed at a loss since it is her primary way to mark progress it seems. There were many awkward pauses throughout our session time, and I generally felt uncomfortable. I felt like I was directing the session more than she was, as she was not asking me many questions. It was a phone session and when I looked at the time, it was actually less than 45 minutes when we ended our session. Overall, I think Dr. He means well, but seems to be flustered when someone falls out of her parameters of how she can work. She seems to have a set approach and method (CBT) and this may work well for some people who fit within her work parameters, She does not take on severe cases. "Mild anxiety and Mild depression" only per our correspondence.

Matching with a therapist is key, if it is not a match, then you find someone else. I am sad to see so many negative comments about Dr. He. I have been seeing her for almost 18 months and my experience has been very positive and she has helped me so much.

I see a lot of complaints in the comments - I can agree that she can be a bit eccentric (she constantly adjusts her space as if she is uncomfortable or generally super fidgety - she is also highly sensitive with scent). However, she has been very helpful to me in sessions, as she tailors them to my needs and is flexible around my schedule. She seems to have a very positive outlook and is able to help me reframe my thoughts actively. No therapist is perfect or 100% normal - so I can live with the quirks, despite how distracting it can be sometimes.

She did not seem like she cared about our session. She just looked at me with a blank face and after I was done talking said "You have more issues than I usually take on" She never once said an encouraging word and honestly made me feel like I was not good enough for her help. Not sure what kind of patient she is looking for, but clearly I was not it. I would never recommend this women as I left her office feeling so much worse than when I entered.

Dr. He is not a professional. During our first meeting she stood up three times to pour herself water from a jug for herself, made very little eye contact and actually interrupted me when I spoke and had very little interest in hearing why I needed counseling. She is distracted and only seems focused when she talks. She is devoid of Any Empathy and seems only interested in how she gets her payments.

The first appt she was late and took it out of my session time. The second session she never showed up. Needless to say, I cancelled the third session.
