Dr. Francis John Bassani, DO, DO

I had the great Misfortune of Being caused a traumatic birth experience and PTSD by Dr Bassani, who was dismissive and cruel right from the start. I came to find out that he was the ONLY DOCTOR IN THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL for the ER and the labor and delivery unit, and I was fear-mongered into having and dangerous and invasive surgery, a c-section after I was lied to about the health of my son. They had been monitoring his heartbeat the entire time I was at UPMC Farrell, and after one small drop in heart rate that happened one time in 5 days and didn't happen again for the rest of an entire day, dr. Basani saw this as the perfect opportunity to force me into having a cesarean section. The easy way out for him. I signed the consent form with tears running from my eyes and shaking and having a panic attack, because I knew deep down in my heart that what they were doing to me was wrong, but I was afraid and the thought of coming home from the hospital without my baby like Dr. Nagy and Dr.… Spittler had told me would happen, I found myself signing my name on the consent for surgery form like I was signing away my soul. I was made to walk myself down the hall to the surgical room and was asked to arch my back sitting upright on the table so that doctor Wang, the anesthesiologist, could pierce my spine in order to prepare for the C-section. Dr. Wang tried several times and several areas of my spinal column that have caused me permanent spine and leg pain, PTSD, and scarring and welts at the site of the injection site. .The anesthesia team at magee-womens hospital in Pittsburgh noted that the attempt he made were way too many allowed and also that he had completely missed the area where he needed to numb me for the Cesarean section that I didn't even need at that time. After what was about 7 to 12 attempts in different Columns of my spine that has caused severe daily pain, he took a break only to smear more iodine on my back and attempt to perform the spinal again. At this time I told the nurse to tell dr. Wang that he was no longer allowed to attempt a spinal anesthesia because he was failing miserably and I was soaking wet and sweat and in pain like I've never felt before. Because she refused to speak up, I yelled myself and said "no I don't consent to treatment from you any more! You're not doing any more spinals on me!" It was at this time that dr. Basani use this opportunity to refuse treatment to me anymore because he said I was "indecisive" I tried desperately to explain to him that I meant that dr. Wang was not allowed to touch me anymore because of the permanent damage he had caused, the cruel manner in which he treated me, and his assurances afterward that I wouldn't feel any pain from what he did to me. I was very unsettled by this as I felt like he was trying to threaten or silence me at this time. I have no doctor at this point because dr. Basani has refused to treat me and please and cries and begging for a patient advocate and a midlife were repeatedly ignored by each and every staff member at that hospital. They openly and repeatedly violated my rights as a patient. Dr Wirth, the head of Labor and Delivery, was called to assist me but refused to come into work because apparently she had something better to do. I was left with no heart rate monitor on my son, who had recently had a dip in his heart rate which had started this whole thing, and was left alone with the promise that dr. Basani would come to talk to me. I waited for 10 hours and didn't shower or eat for him to do what I will describe to you next which is arguably the most scarring and sick thing to do to a woman trying to have a baby. Because dr. Basani no longer wanted to deal with me, he essentially called me crazy knowing this would be a loophole to get me out of the hospital, because there was no therapist available at UPMC Farrell at that time. I was not assisted by any nurses or staff and begged for a customer relations representative, which I was supposed to be entitled to as a patient, as well as a midwife as promised as an option at UPMC Farrell.

Among many months of unnecessary interventions and scare tactics, Dr. Nagy ambushed me at almost 8 months pregnant- and informed I would be induced for labor at 37 weeks. I, as a healthy young woman, rejected this idea and believed it to be completely unnecessary and risky to the health of myself and my son. I asked several times to be saved from this torture because I know that it typically doesn't work and we had a very important family wedding coming up that I'm still so depressed that I had to miss. Ultimately because of the stress UPMC Farrell put on Myself & My Unborn son, I had no other choice but to to have a c- section at magee-womens hospital in Pittsburgh after I was transferred there by long and  anxiety ridden  ambulance ride after 5 torturous, painful, and humiliating days at UPMC Farrell. I spent almost a week and a half time there total over the span of my last few weeks of pregnancy attempting painful and failing induction medication. I later came to find out that… the induction wasn't working at UPMC Farrell because of the fact that the doctors there refused to use more than one induction medication. The other one available that they prescribed to me at Magee's Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh actually produced some dilation and active labor, that ultimately stopped. But had UPMC Farrell used this medication instead of using the same one that kept failing, perhaps this would have saved me from some post-traumatic stress disorder that I suffer from now. But as I am writing, it was clear from the start that these doctors have the attitude to slice and dice their patients like cattle and have no interest in honoring the birthing desires of mothers or their family's health or safety. I wish I could have been brave enough to switch doctors during my pregnancy, but I believe that they had our best interest at heart and it was so stressful to think of trying to find a new doctor at the time, so I made the mistake of trusting dr. Nagy, dr. Spittler, and all the other UPMC doctors and nurses involved in the neglect and malpractice that happened to my family.

Always in a hurry

he says one thing and does another for example my girlfriend was in this morning to induce labor once she seen him he sent her home and told us to come back in six hours to do it unlike him I don't make 70 thousand a year and I don't get paid to take off work for stuff like this because he cant make up his mind an we will never use this hospital for anything thanks to him

He does not come across as having any training in treating people as. People. He has no bedside manner. Comes across as not caring about anyone but himself and his title of MD. Very disappointed that wolf creek has kept him on staff despite all the negative complaints. He is ruining the reputation that both Himes and Dundore built over many years.

I got surgery and he left without telling anyone and I never got my health records from him. I still have problems that I had before, the surgery he did was horrible.

he was a great boss and friend to me when i worked for him over 6 years ago we had a great practice i just want to know what happened you cared for us and your patients and i was one of them looks like you need us back, i miss u your family andyour wife kim this is lane and i hope i have the right dr

My wife left his office crying. Horrible bedside manner and personality!

Seemed like all he cared about was what insurance I had and how much he was going to make off of me!
