Dr. Frank Puhalovich, MD

I have loved being a patient of Dr. Puholovich as I've dealt with chronic pain issues as a result of spinal cord damage in a traffic accident. He is brilliant and creative in always coming up with something new to try when I wasn't finding answers. I always left with hope and new ideas.

My husband had not been himself for quite awhile & wa s referred to Dr. Puhalovich for further evaluation. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! I found this doctor VERY ARROGANT WITH A BIG EGO & A TERRIBLE BEDSIDE MANNER. I felt he was very disrespectful! He didn't seem to be all that concerned about why we were there, it was to the point I felt like he was laughing at us! The primary doctor thought it was due to stress. Dr. Puhalovich proceeded to give my Husband three words to repeat during the conversation when prompted. He then concluded that it was stress & didn't take our concerns seriously. I had to push for a scan of the carotid arteries. Never offered to do an MRI/CT Scan. Dr. Puhalovich was asked point blank..do you promise there is nothing seriously wrong????He said I promise....NO STROKE....NO DEMENTIA! MY GUT WAS SCREAMING SOMETHING IS WRONG! After seeking a second opinion,after further evaluation,tests and MRI/CT scans. Unfortunately my instincts were correct! The results revealed… my Husband had been having TIA'S for quite awhile and as a result been diagnosed with VASCULAR DEMENTIA for which there is no cure! I WISHED I DIDN'T HAVE TO GIVE ONE STAR! PLEASE DO NOT SEEK TREATMENT FROM THIS SO CALLED DOCTOR! IT COULD JUST SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Dr. P asks pertinent questions , gets proper testing, responds to questions, and will try different paths until both you and he are stable and comfortable. His jokes are stale but part of the bedside manner.

I do not recommend Dr Puhalovich for anyone!! My husband was treated by him for almost a year. Upon first meeting him my husband and I found him to be quite knowledgeable and jovial, but as time went on I quickly learned that he has two sides. His ego does not allow him to respond to legitimate questions regarding ones health and treatment. All suggestions are dismissed immediately as he becomes irritable! After my first visit to him, I called the office and he personally and rudely tells me that he can’t answer a question if I don’t bring my husband in. I told him that we were just in the week before and he apologized. He then began over medicating my husband for seizures to the point of keeping him drugged on a daily bases. When questioned about the dosage, he would not hear of a change. When questioned about supplementing a statin with a common supplement that most dr’s use because it depletes a nutrient out of ones system, he said he had never heard of it and not to do it. After… asking about several treatments and options, he rejected them all as useless. Finally, My husband landed in ER fatally ill and we were told the medication he was on should have been monitored at least quarterly. After tracking down medical records and seeing that there had been a slow decline while on it, I knew that was correct and related the information to dr P on the next visit. He argued that it was not his medication that caused him to become ill and that he must have caught a cold and literally got out a text book to see side effects. The side effect is listed online and was reported by the neurologist at the hospital. My husband is later prescribed another medicine in its place and has an allergic reaction to it that is instructed to report immediately on the meds warning label! I report it with true concern and dr P dismissed my husband on the phone in a weakened state with the reaction and we were told to bandaide the reaction with another drug that I was to get from another type doctor. This was truly unbelievable. In the same conversation he told us that he would not see him again and told us to find another doctor while we were still on his medication. I did just that and the new doctor tells me you should always start with the lowest dosage and work your way up for best results and lowest medication. That has worked wonderfully ever since and is a medication that was overlooked by Dr Puhalovich because the original dose was too much that he had prescribed. The new doctor quartered the dose and it worked! So I’m not so sure you can say dr P is so knowledgeable and so caring and so concerned about his patients. He turned away a helpless man bacause he did not want to be told that he had a reaction to a medication that he prescribed. He also took offense when a hospital calls and tells him that his medication caused a near fatal problem. If you are a patient that can just go to the doctor and get a drug and be healed and say thank you very much , I feel great. He is your man and he will like you. If his treatment does not work, he will blame it on you and tell you that you don’t trust him. His answer is to get rid of the patient, not to do what he was sworn to do! Do No Harm and help a patient in his care!!

Dr. Puhalovich would not call me back after he had referred me to another neurologist who did not accept my Humana insurance. I only learned this after I called the referral doctor two weeks later. After that, I called Dr. Puhalovich's office twice, leaving messages to try to get another referral and to get a handicap affidavit signed. It's obvious that he doesn't care. He was unable to diagnose my condition, so when he could not help me and could no longer charge my insurance company ($100 co-pay and time off work, only to be told that he was unable help me), he was done with me. This is very unprofessional to say the least. He does not perform NCS or EMG testing. So, if you think you may need this, you may want to look elsewhere. If you want a professional, caring doctor, you definitely need to look elsewhere.

in addition to being a great doctor and definitely not a pill pusher, , this man has an unusually terrific personality and puts you immediately at ease. I took my daughter ( from out of town ) to the ER recently. During the conversation I told my daughter I would take her to Dr. Puhalovich if she was going to be here longer. The nurse with us just looked at me and said " I just love that man " Enough said.

Dr. P was incredibly patient with my family member who has epilepsy but also many other mental, physical and health issues. She was very concerned about going to a neurologist again after moving to Georgia 7 years ago. He was wonderful and listened patiently as she often goes off topic or talks too much about a minute issue. I am so grateful for him! Plus, he is switching one of her epilepsy meds due to side effects she was having from it. Thank you Dr. P!!!!

At the time, I worked for a nonprofit organization, supporting chronically homeless women. When the funding for our program was taken away, I lost my job and insurance. Though his character had always been in question, it was then that the truth about this man and his practice became quite clear. I could not believe his utter disregard for my wellbeing. I had been a regular patient for three years, yet my health was of absolutely no concern to him. I arrived to his office to have prescriptions refilled that were essential to maintainging the condition of my health. He would not accept partial payment and refused to see me. He had his secretary tell me that he was too busy to see me. She actually brought me back behind the counter so the other patience could not hear her explain why I was being denied. It was a devaluing… experience. His secretary, Sandra, almost seem to enjoy informing me that they did not have time for me and would not have time for me in the near future. Meanwhile, she spoke about me to the other receptionist as if I weren’t standing right between them. If you have read this far, you have already gone too far with Lakeside Nuerology. I am not one to write reviews, but I am one to advocate against that which stands in opposition to the care and compassion that every patient is deserving of. I left my doctors office that day with an understanding that anyone who walks through the doors of that practice is no more than a dollar sign. When the heart is not for the patient then you have to ask yourself...are these hands I will chose to put matters in that will affect the quality of my life? One of if not the best doctor I have ever seen. I cannot say enough about the excellent care he has given me. Staff is great. Care is great. Takes a personal interest in his patients. If you need a neuro, he is the one.
