Had two surgeries with Dr. Fanton and both executed perfectly. First an acl reconstruction went quite well. Anesthesia not perfect the second time in Palo Alto

I've had several complex shoulder surgeries from 6 doctors. Fanton, hands down is the best, most skilled, and has a great bedside manor/sense of humor. I wouldn't consider going to anyone else.

After I dislocated my shoulder, the best of the three local orthopaedic surgeons had me set for three arthroscopic repairs and six weeks in a sling. I drove 140 miles and got a second opinion from Dr. Fanton. He said 75% chance that surgery could be avoided and prescribed physical therapy. Six months later Dr. Fanton turned out to be right on the money. My shoulder is at 85% and still improving. Dr Fanton may be a great surgeon, but he knows when not to use the knife. Appointment times, bedside manner, all that stuff is not relevant if you have a good doctor. Good surgeons are not a dime a dozen. Dr Fanton is a fabulous surgeon who specializes in certain body parts, one of them the KNEE. My first knee surgery was done by a sweet, kind, caring young man who left me with permanent numbness and no feeling on the whole side of my knee. The numbness I had from Dr. Fantons surgery was "zero" and he absolutely fixed the problem that was botched up by the other doctor. So if you are concerned about the outcome of your surgery then see an expert like Dr. Fanton. If you care about all the little fuzzies then all I can say is you might find yourself in trouble after a surgery. I am 60 years old and have had 4-5 outpatient surgeries not including hospitalizations. The staff and outpatient clinic in Redwood City is absolutely the best. On the day of surgery the operating room staff double checked and back tracked to make sure there were no mistakes and… I appreciated that. Don't waste your time shopping around; spend it driving there if you have to. I had many opportunites for surgery in my own city and went there on word of mouth. It was well worth it.

The office is run like an assembly line (once you get beyond the waiting room). But that's all set up to make the Doc efficient before you see him. Once you're with him, you'll get all of the face time you need. It's a plus that he's a nice guy in addition to being a world class surgeon.I was able to walk out of recovery from knee surgery w/o pain...They insisted on a wheelchair so I rode, (but I was able to walk w/o pain), and didn't need pain meds beyond ice pack and tylenol.
