Dr. Gary Steinberg, MD

I was told by my local hospital here in Alabama that I had a rare disease called Moya Moya. They were concerned at the advanced stage I was in. I was informed that my images and all records would be sent immediatley to Stanford Hospital, the surgery I needed could not be done locally. I was contacted by the neurosurgery center at Stanford Hospital and was accepted. They were very efficient in their actions to have everything scheduled with me via telephone. Within one day all my pre-tests were scheduled including my surgery. I was scheduled to have surgery in two weeks. This was an absolute blessing to me; my TIA's had increased drastically and I could feel my self at this point going downhill. When I arrived in California I was extremely scared and afraid of having brain surgery. I didn't know what to expect or what would happen. I did all my test and the day before surgery I met with Dr. Steinberg. He made me feel comfortable along with his amazing staff. Dr. Stienberg explained… every detail of the procedure including any risk and explained his knowledge with how many of these surgeries he has performed and if there were any complications. He has an absolutely wonderful personality and bedside manner. His team of doctors and nurses have the same amazing attitude he has. I could not help but relax and no longer worry about the surgery. This was the absolute first time in my life that I did not have any concerns before a procedure and was not in the least worried about anything not going exactly as planned. After the surgery, I was well taken care of and was not in any pain. The staff was right there to take care of everything I needed and every member of the staff explained in detail everything I needed to know before giving me anything including meds. I wish there were more hospitals that were concerned about patient treatment. I think respect goes a long way in the recovery process. Dr. Stienberg and his staff stayed in contact with me even when I came back to Alabama to ensure I was doing well. I go back at the end of this year because I will have to at some point have the other side of my brain by-passed. I know that I will not be afraid nor will I dread the trip or surgery, because I know God led me to the best hospital. staff and Dr.s to take care of me. Steinberg is an amazing doctor but despite his celebrity status, he will answer questions and is friendly. He does not talk down to his patients. Hard to find a doctor with such skill without being unpleasantly arrogant. Steinberg’s team from the person checking you in to his nurses are exceptional, caring and very responsive. They don’t act like you are bothering them. They are very unusual in the medical field. Just wow!

Dr. Steinberg is truly the world expert in treating Moyamoya Disease. His reputation is "spot on" and I truly own him my life. He treated me with the utmost respect, courtesy, and sensitivity. There aren't enough words to describe my gratitude to this doctor.

Dr. Steinberg did both my mom's surgeries after she was discovered to have THREE aneurysms and one had already ruptured. She was admitted to ICU and he promptly scheduled her emergency surgery for the following day, which went better than anyone expected. He did her second surgery to clip off the second aneurysm around 6 months later and continues to monitor a third, much smaller, aneurysm to this day. He's the absolute best

Gary Steinberg is a brilliant gifted man. He saved our sons life. Can't say any more than that except that he has great people skills to boot. A very rare wonderful guy.

This Dr. is rude rude rude rude., not to mention egotistical

I had the the best experience with Dr. Steinberg and staff.I was diagnosed by neurologist in Fresno, who then referred me to Dr. Steinberg. With in 1 1/2 weeks I had my first STR-MCA surgery to the right side of my brain.. I is always a professional and kind man and he got me in to surgery right away, he feared I would have a massive stroke/ hemmorage.. I will always recommend this Dr.. he is the best for Moyamoya disease.

I had right thalamus surgery 2 years back by Dr. Steinberg and have severe deficits after the surgery. This surgery should not have been recommended.

Please be aware. He suggests unnecessary surgery without emphasizing risks. I am much worse after brain surgery which was really not required.

Dr Steinberg is assuring and his staffs are professional. I had serious depressions, anxieties and eventually suicidal for 2 years. A suspected tumor deep in the brain was thought to be the cause. Finally I was operated and though not a tumor it was excessive tissue growth that had affected me. Today, I feel 99%. I flew in from Singapore for treatment though home is next to the hospital at one time. Dr Steinberg, I thank you!
