Dr. Gary Alan Weinstock, MD

I was put off by his bed side manner and how he speaks to patients. When you call regarding concerns he can be rude and appears annoyed. When requesting medical records it took a very long time and that was after multiply calls and written request. I was disappointed with this provider.

I was a patient of Doctor Weinstock for at least 5 years. When I tried to get my medical records sent to my new doctor (I moved to another town), I was told they couldn't be faxed - as his office lacks a 'secure fax'. Instead they would have to be sent through the mail. Ok no big deal - except they couldn't be sent without my permission in writing. So I had to mail him a letter, saying it was ok to send my records to my new doctor. Fine - I get it, HIPAA compliance and all. So I sent the letter, with instructions on mailing the records to my new doctor, just as I was told to do. Three weeks later, and my new doctor still had not received the records. I called Dr. Weinstock's office - turns out they had not sent them out, even though I had literally written a letter saying to do this, and spoken to them on the phone about it. When the records finally did arrive at my new doctor's office, I was told they were almost completely illegible chicken scratch. It seems that nothing in Doctor… Weinstock's office is up to date. No digital records. Not even a fax machine. When I called to express my dissatisfaction at the difficulty of what should have been a routine transfer of records, not only would Doctor Weinstock not speak to me, I was hung up on. After deciphering the records, my new doctor learned that for my allergy shots mixtures Doctor Weinstock had been mixing incompatible proteins - such as cockroach with tree and grass pollens. This causes the plant proteins to break down and thus the immunotherapy's effectiveness is reduced. According to my new doctor, this has been common knowledge in the field for a long time. It seems that I wasted many years and dollars with this office. I always liked Doc Weinstock because he was cheerful and nice to talk to. However as soon as I began getting treatment elsewhere, it became clear to me that the quality of care he provides is poor and that his office practices are woefully outdated. Avoid at all costs.

Dr. Weinstock doesn’t give up. He has tremendous patience and tenacity. He thinks outside the box. He is Very patient. This is a very frustrating part of medicine. Consistence matters. He doesn’t give up as long as the patient is serious about attacking these allergies which ruin our lives! A very caring doc.

Outdated doctor – doesn’t provide latest care techniques and certainly does not properly document care. Only interested in upping his charges. I went to him bc he had open availability in the area after my physician’s office closed. Now he’s held onto parts of my medical record from his time with NYU and won’t release them in a timely manner for me to see my physician and continue care. Do yourself a favor and find another doctor.

Very caring. Spends as much time as needed with his patients. Thoughtful and concerned.

Consistently rated as one of the top allergists in the NY area. He can't be bought by pharmaceutical companies and will never over or under medicate you. The staff is friendly - he is as well. Would highly recommend.
