Dr. Gillian Kay Karatinos, MD

Dr. Karatinos is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with a subspecialty of Neuropsychiatry. she has been treating me for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and a traumatic brain injury, which I received after being blown up in the field, while on maneuvers as a sergeant in the United States Army, Infantry. I am a disabled veteran now due to my permanent brain injuries, and I did not think that I would ever be able to function in society again, considering the fact that I have a traumatic brain injury, cognitive slowing, and the devastating, and debilitating symptoms of P.T.S.D.. Dr. Karatinos, is also a neuropsychiatrist, which gives her the unique qualifications and ability to help me and countless other men and women who suffer from P.T.S.D., or other brain injuries. I would hate to think about what my life would be like today, if she had not been there to help me.

Many of my patients have been seeing me for 10 to 20 years, That act alone outweighs any infrequent negative reviews, such as the 2 posted, one from 2014 and one from last month. What I actually said about cardiologists was that many are unaware that clonidine, a blood pressure medication from the 80"s, is often used by psychiatrists for anxiety, panic, ADD, and sleep. Who is this compassionate person that all of these reviews are about? The person who I saw was anything but compassionate. She prescribed a blood pressure medicine as a "sleep aid". Every day by about 11 am I felt I was losing my mind and my blood pressure shot up uncontrollably. Finally, after around two years of, what I thought was horrible anxiety and blood pressure problems, my cardiologist saw that I was on the medication for. He asked why. I told him Dr Karatinos had prescribed it as a sleep aid! My cardiologist was outraged. He explained that this medicine was rarely given anymore as it had to be taken three times per day and if it was not it had a "rebound effect", causing the patients' blood pressure to rebound to high levels. I would not recommend Dr Karatinos to anyone. When I told Dr Karatinos about it she said "Cardiologists don't know anything about Blood Pressure medications! She refused to speak to my cardiologist and accused me of trying to manage my own treatment.

Very professional. Very knowledgeable. If you want some who has a wealth of knowledge, a deep understanding of how the brain works, brain injuries, and what medicines might be best for your condition, you can do no better. Very pleased with the outcomes.

In over 30 years of treatment by Psychiatrists and not happy with long standing therapy I found Dr, Karatinos. After testing and several appointments she found that I'd been misdiagnosed and on the wrong medicine. With that correction and regular visits I've felt better the past two years than in 30. Dr. Karatinos is straight to the point, no nonsense, yet attentive, kind, and brilliant. She's been flexible in scheduling and I rarely wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. She also doesn't overbook so you're never rushed. My last doctor was a what I think of as a pill mill and told me if I wanted to talk I could go see a Psychologist. Dr. Karatinos doesn't play those games. I won't see anyone else.

Dr. Karatinos has been treating me for over ten years. She has gone above and beyond what any other medical professional has done for me. She is assertively direct and opinionated and sometimes tells me things I don't want to hear or agree with - however I find her to be a brilliant, dedicated and compassionate doctor. I also appreciate that she does not shy away from difficult and complex medical/pshyc issues that other doctors has been to afraid or intimidated to tackle.

Dr. Karatinos is a very angry woman who is very unfriendly during your session and when you leave her, you feel horrible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND her to anyone who has depression. She is knowledgeable and her appointments are on time but that is it. She is a hot head ready to explode. It is time for her to retire. My husband have been in the waiting room several time listening to her yell at the patient before me.
