Greg A. Merrell, MD received his medical degree from Yale University. He continued at Yale for his orthopaedic residency. Dr. Merrell received his fellowship training in upper extremity and microvascular surgery from Brown University.

Dr. Merrell has special interests in wrist arthritis, fracture care, minimally invasive surgery of the elbow and wrist, as well as conditions of the shoulder. He has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters on the minimally invasive treatment of fractures. Dr. Merrell has an active research program established.

Dr. Merrell is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery, and a member of the clinical trials and outcomes committee for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

His research interests include the study of bone healing. Dr. Merrell won the Marshall Urist American Orthopaedic Association award for his research on bone healing. He has written a number of journal articles and book chapters on minimally …invasive treatment of scaphoid fractures. He was the invited author from the Journal of Hand Surgery to describe his minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of tennis elbow. Dr. Merrell served as team physician for the 2002 Search for Genghis Khan Expedition to Mongolia. This expedition was featured on a Discovery Channel documentary.

Was there for my son’s appt. Told him I was being referred to him by another Dr. we talked about it and he actually took care of my problem while I was there! I don’t know any Dr that would have done that. He gets Dr of the decade from me!

Dr. Gregory A. Merrell is an excellent hand surgeon. My first carpal tunnel surgery several years ago was very successful with him so I returned and just had my other hand done.. Dr Merrell is very professional, courteous, personal caring and a miracle worker. As a highly unusual occurrence happened a week after surgery, he promptly admitted me to the hospital for three days and took care of everything in a very expedited manner. Dr. Merrell and his staff including his fellow doctor have been wonderful to deal with. I highly recommend Dr. Merrell.

What a dream of an appointment! Dr. Merrill and his team were efficient, kind, and completely on top of things. From the moment I walked in, they assessed, explained, and mapped out a plan — no guessing, no waste of time. He broke down the physiological side of my issue in a way that actually made sense and gave me real options for treatment. Before I knew it, I was off to the PT in that very same visit. Exercises in hand and a follow up already scheduled, I am on my way to alleviating my shoulder pain. It was seamless, thoughtful, and dare I say refreshing? Easily the best, most productive doctors visit I’ve had in ages.
