Dr. Moy works with families who are often vulnerable and searching for answers for their children. Professionalism, clarity, and follow-through are therefore critical.
I had a previous evaluation with my older son years ago and understood what a high-quality, thorough evaluation looks like. Going into this, I asked detailed questions, did my due diligence, and had multiple in-depth conversations with Dr. Moy. Based on those conversations, he assured me he would provide the high standard we were seeking. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
After completing the evaluations—at a cost of thousands of dollars—we were given a lengthy report and one hour to review it with him. These reports are complex and difficult to fully understand in such a short time. Dr. Moy had previously stated that if we had concerns, he would be available for further testing or additional appointments. However, when we sought clarification, that support was not there.
We asked similar questions across… multiple categories, trying to understand where our son may have shown elevated traits, even if he did not meet full diagnostic thresholds. Our goal was to better understand the nuances of the results. Each time, the response was simply that he “didn’t qualify,” without further explanation. A child does not need to meet full diagnostic criteria to feel the impact of challenges in areas like attention, processing, or learning. We were trying to understand how those areas might affect his day-to-day functioning, confidence, and success, and what supports or strategies might help him moving forward.
We scheduled a second call so our son could ask questions and clarify areas where he felt misunderstood. He felt that parts of his conversations and responses during testing were taken out of context. During that conversation, he became discouraged and disengaged, expressing that he didn’t feel his voice mattered. For a teenager, this type of evaluation requires trust and sensitivity, and that trust was broken.
We also requested resources or recommendations but received none. Dr. Moy had assured us that any additional assistance would be included at no extra charge. However, during the second call, he became agitated and indicated he had begrudgingly given that one extra hour, despite the evaluation itself taking two full days. We were expected to understand complex results and walk away after only two one-hour calls, leaving us feeling rushed, unsupported, and forced to interpret the results on our own.
The contrast between pre-commitment engagement and post-evaluation support was stark. Before we committed, Dr. Moy was responsive, thorough, and reassuring. After the evaluation, that level of care dropped off, leaving us unsupported when we needed clarity the most.
Ultimately, we were left with a report but little understanding of what it meant for our son’s real-life needs—what he nearly qualified for, what challenges remained, or what next steps to take. We were told to seek a second opinion or follow up with our primary care provider, shifting the responsibility back to us after a significant financial investment.
I strongly encourage parents to carefully consider their options, especially if the cost of this evaluation is significant. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Moy. This process had a meaningful negative impact on our son and our family.
