Dr. Hal David Martin, DO

Look, he clearly has fixed a lot of patients and made them better. That is hard to deny. In my case, I had so much faith in him and loved his personality. When I woke up post "labral tear surgery", I found out that he had also peformed a femoroplasty and made many more incisions than had been discussed. The pre-surgery discomfort soon turned into all out pain and inability to walk. He gave me all these reasons why, sent me to PT over and over, and when none of his outlandish diagnoses were correct, he scored me high on my hip score and proclaimed me nearly back to normal to get me out of his office. I can now see that he doesn't want to say "I don't know" which is very dangerous to any patient who sees him. There is no humility to him and I also think he forgets things. Very nice man, can't say enough about how kind he is and his bedside manner, but I would rather go to a rude doctor who didn't cause me to have enormous amounts of pain when I walk, which I didn't have before… surgery.

When I hit 30, other drs kept saying my hip pain and stiffness was because I wasn’t young anymore and couldn’t run the long distances I use to back in the day. My hips would lock up and after having a bilateral mri with contrast in the joints, another ortho told me there was a small tear in the labrum but I would be fine. I wanted a 2nd opinion and entered Dr Martin. He is an awesome surgeon. I basically was born with hip dysplasia, so he performed labrum repairs, a femoralplasty, and shaved my frayed tendon down on both hips, 4 yrs apart. 3 wks on crutches, 3 wks on cane and a year later I’m running faster and farther than I ever have. Highly recommend Dr Martin!

Please beware that much of the doctors work is "experimental". They told me my insurance agreed to pay then after surgery I got a bill because my insurance a well known established company would not cover "experimental" procedures. When I called to discuss with billing the lady said "much of what he does is experimental and we see this a lot". I'm sure in the numerous pages I signed I agreed to pay what insurance would not but if you know for a fact this happens often I believe you need to be up front and honest with your customers. Then I ask if they will discount if I pay in full - I've always had other hospitals do that at least take 20% off but not here. They said they negotiated with the insurance - that doesn't help the consumer! Also, left 7 messages over a 1 year time frame to never get a returned call. Every time they would say we did try to call you - I never had a message or missed call on my cell. And to top it all off, the surgery did not fix my issue at all. And… when my husband and I challenged the doctor why this solution he said would 100% fix the issue, he couldn't get out of the room fast enough.

Do not let him touch you for a nerve issue. There are other surgeons out there. He created a lot more pain after his surgery. I had his surgery fixed by a peripheral neurosurgeon who see’s a lot of his cases for revision and was told he should not be doing these surgeries. Office was horrible.

Stay away. I do not recommend. Please go elsewhere and do not let him ever touch you -- in or out of surgery.

Complete God complex. Follow ups with him were pointless as he and his staff refused to give ANY information after a botched attempted procedure. If something goes wrong with your procedure...good luck getting one iota of information out of this man. Complete snake in the grass.

Wait time was over 1 hour!! That was nearly every time I went for an appointment. Dr Martin mis-diagnosed me. Plain as that! I KNEW something was seriously wrong with my hip. Dr Martin kept telling me it was a torn ligament ( no hisotry of a cause for a torn ~ anything). I suffered over a period of a few months, each time the pain was worse and worse. I kept telling him it was getting worse. I was nearly unable to walk at all! He wanted to do surgery. I was trying to schedule the time off from work. I cannot even begin to explain what happened in the interim. How he and his staff treated me. I was crying- seriously crying. He scheduled me for an injection of some 'gel' that was supposed to easy my pain for a few weeks until I could have the surgery. The "gel" was $500.00 I had to pay out of my own pcoket because insurnce doesnt cover it. And getting that prescription filled was a fiasco in of itself. His staff was absolutley of NO HELP what so ever. When the injection was finally… being done, I was in a lot of pain- not from the injection, but from the deterioration of my joint and the pain was unbearable. He and his helpers in that procesdure room were disrespectful of me and joked about my tears. I left there and went to see a real doctor. An Orthopedic surgeon who I only explained to him I needed a second opinion. Turns out I had a tumor on my hip that Dr Hal Martin never even saw with a MRI (with contrast). Torn ligament- really doctor?? My opinion is that he should not be allowed to practice medicine! My Husband was so angry! I was too. I ended up having a total hip replacement and now have absolutely NO PAIN, no limping, no problems. I can tell you for sure that it was not a torn ligament Hal. It was a tumor. Thanks be to the Lord it was not malignant.

He saved my soccer career. I'm 17 and had to have hip surgery on my right hip for irregular conditions due to problems I was born with. I had 1 doctor who had me have an MRI with dye injected into my hip and his radiologist told me I was totally fine only to realize I was the complete opposite. He completed fixed my right hip and has gotten me back to playing soccer better than before. I highly recommend him.

I'm 14 and I had a hip sugary he was the only 1 that could figure out what was Causing my pain. 2 weeks later I had sugary he stayed by my bed the hole time I was in the hospital ( had to stay 1 day) he's therapists were great and had me back on my feet in 2 weeks I would recommend him 2 anyone
