Dr. Harel Deutsch, MD

On October 2, 2022 my wife has a very bad accident where she works at the Airport. She had a serious fall on a hard service, on her back and hit her head due to carelessness by a passenger. She was knocked out and when she came to, she did not know what happened as things were foggy. One passenger, who stated he was a doctor, advised her not to cross her legs while she waits for the Paramedics to arrive. Paramedics arrived and took her to the Hospital, close to the airport and they did confirm, she did have a concussion. After she was released and went to the doctor the very next day, due to a headache as well as dizziness. A couple weeks later, while taking medication for the pain and in the back and headaches, she began therapy for both her neck and lower back which was authorized by Sedgewick, the company who manages the clams. All she wanted was to get her injuries healed to go back to work but there were delays in getting things approved which actually slowly made things worse.… During the whole process she saw quite a few doctors that confirmed she had both a neck and back injuries. Surgery was successful on her neck and close to 3 yrs later, there is still some discomfort but allot better then before the surgery. Attempts for her back were done with numerous therapies, which did not seem to help and only offered very little relief. Doctors tried shots in her back, which only gave temporary relief but the pain would immediately come back. They also sent someone to the home and had her fitted for a special Lower Back Brace, but did not do give her the results that she was hoping for. Once it was determined, after taking each step which proved to have a little results, it was determined that Surgery was the best option. Once that decision was made, all of a sudden Sedgwick, pulled their initial Doctor, who was aware of each step taken and switched to Doctor Dr Harel Deutch MD. He met with my wife on April 30,2025 for about 3 mins. He asked for a CD, with updated tests proving how serious the lower back injury was but did not even look at the results. He touched the shoulder and neck area and did not even examine the lower back. So, after 941 days of pain and suffering, where as time passed the pain progressed, Dr Harel Duetch denied the accident being Workers Comp Related. Based on the very quick visit her knew that he was going to deny the claim before he stepped in to the room to talk with her. I am shocked that any major hospital or medical facility would even allow someone to work for them knowing how bad his reviews are and that he does not care of the well being of the patients that he sees in his office.

Dr. Deutsch performed two (2) lumbar (L3-5) surgeries and one (1) c-spine (C4-5) surgery for my husband between 2008 and 2017. Thanks to Dr. Deutsch, he was able to walk without a walker in his last 15 years, until heart failure and the covid vax took him away from me. The c-spine surgery returned use of his right (dominant) arm, he never had trouble raising his arm after the c-spine fusion & discectomy. Dr. Deutsch and his staff are the BEST.

I am a 35 year old female with chronic low back issues, of a healthy weight. I used to be a competitive runner and have always been very active. I had significant height loss in the disc and femoral narrowing. Dr. Deutsch performed a single level lumbar disc replacement l4-l5. It has been a year and a half since surgery, and my life has been altered in such a positive way. I am active again and suffer little to no low back pain anymore. If you're looking for peppy bedside manner, Dr. Deutsch might not be your guy. He is a bit socially awkward. However, I don't believe this affects his ability as a surgeon in the slightest. He was upfront about the risk and potential outcomes of surgery, and he and his staff did an amazing job.

WORST doctor of any type I have ever encountered. I've never known a doctor who does not see his patients in their room after surgery ... ever. Only his cocky residents show up. Deutsch briefly apoears in recovery to tell you how the surgery went when you're fully awake and able to retain info ... HA! I doubt he did my surgery; likely supervised residents. Was a total failure and left me with a horrible scar on the front of my neck as well ... incision took more than EIGHT weeks to heal because dermal glue was used and the edges weren't held together sufficiently to bond. I could have done a better job without a mirror. Oh, and he loves to make his patients wait for his presence. I arrived early for an appointment, was quickly taken in, nurse said he was in and wasn't busy, so he would likely be right in. Nope. Waited the 45 minutes to my appointment time, then almost TWO hours after before he walked in. Said nothing about the delay. I was just about to walk out. I should have. I've… never seen him since. He's a total egomaniacal hack, imho. Wish I had never met him.

If I could give 0 stars I would. He did my 2nd microdiscectomy in 2012 and right after surgery, my foot was completely numb. I couldn't feel it at all and had to walk on crutches for 2 weeks because of this. I went in for the 6 month follow up and complained that I had partial feeling in my foot and the back of my leg was still completely numb. He said it just takes time for nerves to heal. He was full of s***. After speaking to other doctors, they said your nerves could have been nicked or clamped for too long, causing permanent damage. 11 years later, having serious issues with swelling and still can't feel the majority of my leg/foot. All he wanted to do was push pain meds. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nowNEW One word GREED. Highly avoid this doctor. I’m so darn glad I never let this inconsiderate uncaring man fix my back. He is the WORST NEUROSURGEON at rush who has just a terrible personality. I just can’t believe someone can just talk to their patients the way he did. All this man literally thinks about is making money and doing surgery. Seen him 3 times and he was oblivious on who I was the last time. He just said Uhh you have two fractures here? Like no duhh. You told me 2 other times. Never once looked at my chart or any other scans that were done. Also he had told me to never believe what doctors put in your records. Honestly he doesn’t even deserve a 1 star like most people said. I sure hope he doesn’t treat his children this way. Beyond terrible bed side manner. No sympathy for a crying person at all. Doesn’t EVER barely let you talk. Tells me his son has mental health issues but basically walks out on me and says if you need surgery let me know. Also his nurse who… doesn’t even say her name asks if I had pain and than asks what’s the level?. 2 minutes go by and said she said you’re having no pain right? I highly do NOT recommend him at all. How inconsiderate. I can’t believe this.

I've seen probably 150 Dr's in my life and Dr Deutsch was among the worst. I'm thankful that the initial visit with him was so bad that I wasn't even tempted to continue treatment with him. This Dr completely misdiagnosed my condition, which is already established by every test and multiple other Dr's. It's hard to tell if he is really that bad or he was lying to me because he didn't want to take my complicated case and my Medicaid insurance. He kept asking me how long I've been out of work, like that is what he was basing his surgical decision on. Finally he gave me a bogus reason for dismissing me saying my previous surgery a year ago wasn't healed yet even though every imaging test and multiple Dr's said it was healed 6 months ago! Anyway, I'm grateful he's not treating me. During the appt. he just got up and left, not saying a word, I just sat there wondering what was going on until his assistant came in and ended the appt.

Dr. Harel Deutsch is one of the nicest doctors I have ever met. He did a wonderful job fixing my back.

Dr Deutsch and his staff at Rush University successfully inserted an artificial disc at my L5/S1 level on 8.27.19. On just the 4th day I was able to walk two miles (cane assisted). Two and a half weeks later I'm improving day by day fantastically with minimal, healing type body pain. The surgery went through my abdomen and my incision of only 2.5 inches is healing beautifully. I couldn't be anymore grateful to the fellow Dr who assisted, the general surgeon who set up the anterior approach, his staff of very knowledgeable, courteous and professional nurses AND the awesome hospital personnel who took great care of me post-op during my hospital stay. Bravo & thank you to everyone involved at RUSH who helped get my back in order. I feel like a million bucks!
