Dr. Powers is not someone that I could recommend to anyone. Without giving away too many details as to not reveal my identity, I can honestly say that you would be better off going with an intern with Kaiser than seeing this man! Just say "NO" , and move on...I believe that he is struggling with his own issues as to make him largely ineffective and kind of dangerous in a way in regards for therapy to others and to couples.

My husband and I went to Dr Powers for marital counseling. Powers uses a book "Hold Me Tight" as the basis for his marriage advice. However when our difficulties didn't fit a particular chapter in the book, Powers was unable or unwilling to separate from the teachings of the book. He seemed to forget important facts between sessions. Powers also had private conversations with my husband regarding me and without my permission or knowledge. This fact did not come to light until about 3 months after we decided to stop using Powers. After a year and thousands of dollars, we chose to stop going to Powers. We do not recommend Powers for marital or any type of counseling where trust is important.
