Dr. Heidi Lynnette Henninger, MD

Dr. Henninger has been patient and caring to both the gentleman she is providing medical care to and his support team. She has been direct and clear about her recommendations while working with a team. Dr. Henninger has listened to concerns and offered treatment options when the team was hesitant to follow her full recommendations.

After several years of ineffective and failed treatment in which i had to many grand mal seizures that disrupted my life on a daily basis Dr henninger, at my first appointment, explained that my prior medication treatment was no longer used, placed me on new medications that successfully stopped my grand mal seizures entirely and significantly reduced my petite mal seizures. I now no longer fear the expected and frequent seizures I had before I saw Dr Henninger.

Dr. Henninger is an excellent, warm, compassionate, knowledgeable Dr. I had been to no less than nine Doctors in various fields consulting with them about a sever medical issue I had been suffering with for almost two years (even had gone to Boston). Dr. Henninger knew after 10 minutes of meeting with me what the issue was, and immediately started a treatment plan that I felt back to myself in three days. The difference is she listened to me, and thought outside the box. I am forever grateful!

Great Doc never makes you feel rushed...

She has ensured an effective medication routine that has benefited her patient. Her office staff are kind, helpful, and patient. Dr Henninger does not seem to trust that her patient or her patient's caregivers are telling the truth. I understand and respect her desire to ensure that what she is hearing is accurate, in order to provide the best care possible, but the tone of her inquiries can seem condescending. She is sometimes dismissive of her patient's concerns and can come across as though she is scolding or bothered. She doesn't seem to like people very much, which can be a barrier to the communication a patient wants with their doctor.

Did not answer my questions regarding the last medication she prescribed (examples- it is a new drug- why it was being used, how to increase & how I was to determine the correct dosage amount; also what the possible side effects aside from tiredness may beâ?? I wound up in the ER with respiratory problems which Dr. Henninger later said were a rare side effect; consistently asked for my confirmation that I was abusing either or both 'street drugs' and my Rx's, seemingly believing this was the root cause of my presenting (side effects) symptoms as well as most of my seizure-like activity. Dr. Henninger did not preform any in-office tests (standard neurological: such as pertaining to gait, tremor, balance, strength, memory, etc. Would write in notes there was no time.) Dr. Henninger told me she did not feel she could treat my headaches, due to my lifestyle. Her office requested I bring written confirmation from a witness that I actually had the seizures I reported. Her nurse was not… only unaware of my specific Dx, and my prescriptions, but unaware I even had epilepsy. Her nurse also asked me, because I was home alone during a grand mal seizure, if I timed them myself, leading me to wonder about her familiarity with this type of seizure disorder. After 10 years of treatment by Dr. Henninger, (preceded by 20 years of treatment by another neurologist in the same office), she determined I didn't have epilepsy after all. She explained coming to this conclusion after a recent review of all my imaging tests; particularly the EEGs, asking me if I was aware there had never been even one abnormal EEG. Wanting a 2nd opinion, I requested (on that same day) my medical records along with imaging tests. The EEGs Dr. Henninger had carefully reviewed, after 8-10 months, are still unavailable. The rest of my 2nd opinion found I was highly over medicated, causing ataxia (most of the symptoms I had brought to Dr. Henninger's attention at each visit) as well as high ammonia levels in my liver. After changing neurologists, just one 30 minute visit showed quite a disparity, and I feel lucky to be treated by a doctor who is paying attention.

Dr. Henninger may be knowledgeable in her narrow experience, but she is also extremely arrogant. She is unwilling to collaborate with specialists at other institutions who have more experience in rare conditions that she has never treated. She doesn't trust her patients to know their own bodies, and she belittles their fear of medication side effects. In other words, she treats the seizures, not the whole patient.

I can't say enough about Heidi, she wasthe greatest person that I could have found when it came to my seizures and shetotally changed my life. I owe everythingto her.

I'm 40 yrs old, and have had epilepsy all of my life. Having seen 4-5 neurologists, and three other professionalists for my disability over my life, I am ecstatic to find Dr. Henninger. She's professional, knowlegable, and willing to continue trying until the problem is solved. I have been seizure free for over 5 years. (A first in my life.) My longest was a three and a half year session. Thank you, Dr. Henninger!!
