Dr. Helena C Humphrey, MD

She was my first OBGYN and she was great - for someone who I needed to see once a year. When I got pregnant with my first child, there were many things I noticed about her and the office that I was unhappy with. First, the wait time in the beginning is quite short. They call you fairly immediately. But once I am in the exam room and they have taken my weight and blood pressure, they keep me waiting in the exam room for a very long time. It doesn't make sense to me that they would make a patient wait in the cold, uncomfortable exam room rather than in the nicer waiting room. Second, although she had been my OB for the previous 2 years, and I was now seeing her monthly, every appointment I came in for she would either introduce herself and/or ask what my name is. She has my file in her hands, there's no reason for her not to know who I am (or at least know my name). And, whenever she's in the exam room with me, she usually stands with her back to me as we talk - I'm assuming… because she's reading my file. (Which I consider quite rude and unfriendly.) If she needs to review my file, she should have done so before coming into the room, which also tells me that she is not prepared nor organized. Third, every time I go in, I get the impression that she is rushing to be out of the room. I suppose I have a fairly normal pregnancy, but all she asks is how I am, and doesn't go into detail about how I am, nor does she tell me anything about what to expect. It's not easy to open up to her and I feel she is unapproachable. Not something I want for a first pregnancy. Everything is new and I wish she would take into consideration that it's my first time. As this is my first, I would prefer someone who over-explains things rather than assume I know it all. She does generally have a friendly demeanor, which I do very much appreciate which is why I gave her two stars. BUT, I want an OB who sees me as a person, not just another medical file from her patient list. Definitely not the kind of doctor/OB I want.

Dr. Humphrey is the most caring doctor I have ever met. She has wonderful bedside manner and I have been going to her for about 10 years now. I hope she never retires because she would be very hard to replace.

I had a very poor experience and did not go back to this doctor.

Dr Humphrey was my first OB. I had a great experience with her. I always felt comfortable with her & the staff. For my second pregnancy, I went to a different doctor due to the fact that I moved. And that was the worse experience not only b/c I had a miscarriage but the staff never had knowledge about anything. I would had to wait for two to three hours to b seen even though I had an appt. I am pregnant again & I decided that an hour drive is worth seeing Dr Humphrey.
