Dr. Howard H Kurtz, MD

I was 5 weeks pregnant and woke up bleeding. Fearing the worst I called and they scheduled me in with THIS doctor. I read reviews before leaving and was hoping they were not accurate. Indeed they were. He was so rude and nasty. If I asked or said something the initial thing out of his mouth was a sigh, sucking his teeth or eye roll. I never wanted to leave so fast. It was a horrible experience. I unfortunately miscarried and I have so many questions but he did not allow my husband or myself to ask any. This was my first pregnancy. I am devastated.

Worst Doctor Experience Yesterday I had a doctor’s visit at Mount Sinai Ob/Gyn department. This was the worst doctors experience of my life, following a very personal traumatic event. On Sunday Oct 7th I was 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I woke up bleeding and went to the emergency room. After a HCG level blood test, a pelvic exam and multiple sonograms, I was told that I most probably had had a miscarriage, and to follow up with my provider in 2-3 days, to check my HCG levels and some cysts that were found on my ovaries. I called the office at Mount Sinai on 85th Street on Monday at 10:37am, and scheduled an appt to see my provider on Wednesday Oct 10th at 2:15pm. Upon arrival they could not find my appointment, and rushed to the back with my discharge paper work from the hospital. I understand we are humans and make mistakes, ok no big issue. They then proceeded to walk me to the back and sit me and my husband at an ultrasound room. The medical assistant explained that they… were not going to do anything just a blood test. Following the instructions given by the doctor at the hospital I asked to speak to the doctor. I was extremely anxious and upset, and had a million questions in my head. A few minutes later the most arrogant and rude “doctor” with a horrible bedside manner walks in. He made it seem like I was wasting his time and that there was no reason for me to be there. I understand he that probably sees this every day, but I don’t. For me IT IS IMPORTANT, it is important to get all my questions answered, to know what to expect, and know what I should or should not do. This condescending man made me feel so insignificant and uncared for. He made it seem like nothing was wrong, like I was wasting his time, like I should not have made an appointment to see my OB/GYN. It is my body and I was not there for free. This INSENSITIVE guy made my already traumatic experience worse. As a health care provider myself, I understand this guy should not be practicing medicine. At a very minimum he needs to work on his bedside manner, take the time with patients that they deserve, and not make them feel insignificant, unimportant, and a hindrance on their day. My miscarriage was the saddest and most difficult moment of my life. I felt let down and uncared for, by a professional that should have put my mind at ease and cared for me the way I deserved.

This man is condescending, arrogant and intentionally rude! He did not listen to anything I had to say and cut me off while I was attempting to answer his questions. On top of it all he mocked the opinion of my previous GYN (btw she has better credentials and better bedside manner than he does). This man should not even be a doctor.

I was suckered into seeing Dr. Kurtz on a routine pregnancy check-up when my normal OB was unavailable. (They force you to see every doctor in the practice since they wont commit to personally delivering you. RED FLAG #1) Seeing Dr. Kurtz was such an awful experience I had my records transferred to a new practice immediately. Firstly, he read over none of my medical records. He scolded me for declining a pricey *ELECTIVE* screening that was not covered by my insurance because I'm under 35, and then gave me a referral for another despite my protestations. He spoke down to me, called me the wrong name, and then said we could "find out the gender soon".........even thought we already knew the gender and it was (I WOULD HOPE) in my medical record. I asked him to check me for a UTI but never received the results. No biggie, right? It's just the health of my unborn baby. Upon requesting that my medical records be transferred to another practice, the receptionist claimed she couldn't find… me in the system. After patiently waiting for her to spell my name correctly, she explained that I'd need TO PAY FOR COPIES OF MY OWN MEDICAL RECORD. Then she promptly emailed me a "medical release form" for me to fill out and send back to her AT A GMAIL ADDRESS. Yes you read that correctly...not at the practices domain/private server...but via GMAIL. Just do yourself a favor: STAY AWAY FROM THIS MATERNITY FACTORY. You will feel like a number rather than a person, and they will up-sell you far too many tests that are unnecessary and out of pocket and then judge you for being your own health advocate.

Dr. Kurtz has absolutely no bedside manners whatsoever

I have to say that I always felt kind of rushed but all in all they were very thorough and always followed up with me on my results and diagnostic testing throughout my pregnancy. In the end Dr. Kurtz delivered my son and I could not be happier.

I am very surprised to read these negative reviews, to be honest. I have been going to Dr. Kurtz for years and have never had an issue. I find that he listens to me, takes what I say/want into consideration and really works with me. He is pleasant, makes friendly conversation, but is professional and appropriate. I think some of the women on here want a therapist or boyfriend, not a doctor!! How long would you like him to spend with you? When I'm at the gyn, I'd like to get done ASAP! Honestly, though, I once barged into Dr. Kurtz's office, upset about a boyfriend I was afraid might have been unfaithful to me and he was very understanding. He offered me tissues, reassured me, and calmed me down. In my opinion, this was much more than I could ask for from a doctor! Last but not least, I hardly ever have to wait more than a few minutes in the office - I'm glad when my doctors don't spend an hour with each patient...some of us have to get back to work! :)

I am a new patient of Dr. Kurtz's and am so glad to have found him. My old gyn had terribly long waits and treated patients like an assembly line. Dr. Kurtz is very professional, addresses all your questions fully, follows up with phone calls promptly and has excellent bedside manners. He is a wonderful doctor.

Dr. Kurtz was very quick and I had impression that he did not really care about me as a patient. His questions lastes 5 minutes and exam maybe 3 minutes. Sometimes quick doesn't mean good quality and satisfied patients.
