Dr. Hsien Cheng Young, MD

Please do yourself a favor and search the web and read the countless extremely negative reviews he has with over half of his patients. I did not.. and am wishing I had. Sure, youll find plenty of good reviews, too.. but the fact that they is such an extremely broad contrast in people's interactions with him speaks volumes. I saw him for the first time recently and can honestly say it is the worst interaction I have ever experienced by a doctor.. He was rude, abrupt, condescending, insensitive, unwillingly to listen and made several personal attacks. He made negative comments about the type of insurance I had; my appearance, issues in my medical history which are completely unrelated to my current symptoms/issues. He was in the room for about 20 minutes; 3 minutes tops where he actually discussed my existing issues, and the rest of the time making insults; asking very personal questions about things totally unrelated and making comments based on my answers. Essentially, he… insisted (with ZERO testing) that there was nothing wrong with me and implied that my issues were 'all in my head.' My experience was more like an interrogation you'd expect at a police station if you were a suspect in some serious crime and less like a routine visit to a Doctor's office because you don't sleep well and have new memory and cognitive problems. Upon leaving, I was completely floored. In total disbelief of what had just happened. When I stopped by the desk to check out, the 4 or 5 office personnel who were behind the glass all looked at me with this very obvious non-verbal communication of 'we know our boss is a total [jerk] and were sorry about that.' It was as if they were apologizing for what had just happened, when they weren't even in the room. I seriously felt as though this man was trying to provoke me. His demeanor came across as some personal attack, however, after reading other people's experiences, I don't take it personal at all.. Read other's reviews. The fact that there is such a broad contrast says a lot. The fact that there are more than half negative reviews and people saying nearly the same things does as well. Clearly he sees (or doesn't see) something in someone's medical history that sets (or doesn't set) him off and causes him to target patients negatively. Maybe it's a person's socioeconomic status? Their race/ethnicity? What he PRESUMES is their political affiliation, or if it does/does not align with his own? For whatever unknown reason, he clearly discriminates against some of his patients and treats them accordingly. So much for the 'hippocratic oath'!! This guy clearly does not treat patients with equal care and uses his position to leverage his personal convictions and judgements onto people who are only there to get fair and adequate medical attention. I seriously don't know how someone like this is still allowed to practice medicine???? He's like the 'bad cop' with a chip on his shoulder- only with a stethoscope and a prescription pad instead of a badge and a gun. Dr. Young: You took an oath to care for and help your patients. There is no place for politics and personal judgements in medicine!!!! Shame on you.

I had been forwarned that he doesnt have the best "bedside manner" but unfortunately he is the only Dr offering sleep studies in my area. That being said, I was not expecting to leave the appointment in tears. Initially while answering questions involved in the consultation, his manner of speaking was noticeably abrasive. I felt the need to explain that his tone was making me extremely uncomfortable. I am not sure if by saying that I had offended him by contradicting him in some way....but from that point on the rest of the appointment became increasingly hostile and defensive. He made many uncalled-for and misinformed comments on my past diagnosis of an eating disorder (non-relevant, from years prior) and making judgements of the medications my psychiatrist has prescribed me. I left the consultation feeling misunderstood, attacked, disregarded, but most of all in shock that a medical PROFESSIONAL would act in such a manner.

Well I will keep this short and not sweet. This man needs to be fired....

My husband, who is 85, has been having tremors and other apparent neurological/aging problems. Dr. Young was kind, funny, made us feel at ease. He was respectful and explained things very well. If I ever need a neurologist, I'll be seeing him, and my husband will also be seeing him again!

Dr. Young seems to be very competent and is quite pleasant and affable. He does, though, make some inappropriate comments that are unprofessional and that I cannot imagine my other doctors making (such as people's appearance, weight, etc.). He maybe needs more training in how to relate professionally with his patients.

He lectured me. He was very rude about me taking antidepressants. He told me insane advice about restless legs syndrome, like "why don't you just rub your legs ?" The single worst bedside manner I have ever had. I have never complained about a doctor before. Condescending to the nth degree.

I love Dr. Young, he was able to assess my problem. He's given accurate help with my questions. I have been his patient for 3 years. Highly recommend.

He did not ask a single question, not one, about me or why I was there to see him. Came in, started drawing what sleep apnea looks like - again without asking me a single question - and then made a (bad) joke about my referring physician. Do not feel comfortable seeing him again.

I have been to see Dr. Young twice or three times in the last couple of years. I am now seeking another neurologist. Leaving the appointment the first time I asked myself "is it me".? Subsequent appointments answered that question. It was him. Brusque, terrible bedside manner, lets you know he's the one with the smarts, makes lame inappropriate jokes.

Dr. Young is a great doctor. He spends more than enough time with me. He is understanding and he explains what's going on with me. He always asks me about the medication that I am taking and how I am feeling. He is not timid, like some doctors, in the way he prescribes the medication. He is confident without being arrogant and in control.Dr. Young diagnosed my narcolepsy and it seems to me that he genuinely cares about me and he is working his best for me to get better. I rate Doctor Young excellent!
