Dr. Philip Ralph Delio, MD

Dr. Delio is one of the top neurologists in the country and has an outstanding reputation. He has provided my family with excellent care and we are very grateful to him. Dr. Delio not only is an excellent physician, he is one of those rare doctors who can think outside the box and tailor care to the individual. He keeps current with new research and has a cohesive approach to medicine. To the person who wrote an unkind comment about this doctor, for reasons not even pertaining to quality of care, I would like to ask you to reconsider what you've said.

What an unctuous, threatening doctor. I had a stroke, and was taken to Cottage Hospital. Delio headed up the stroke unit, and he automatically became my doctor. Not being given ANY food or water for 36 hours, and being a Type 2 diabetic, I was told by him I was in Stroke Protocol. I told him I was leaving Cottage, to which he replied that Medicare would not cover any costs I incurred. I asked him if his malpractice insurance was paid up because I was an attorney and I would sue him if he interfered with my Medicare coverage. He shut up.

My 90 year old Mom who has mild to moderate cognitive decline was misdiagnosed as having Alzheimer’s by a trigger- happy and much less attentive doctor three years ago. Dr. Delio took more time and diagnosed her accurately with mild cognitive I pairment( mostly short term memory loss) he was so great working with her and explained why she was likely not an Alzhiemer’s patient when he reassess a year later but also engaged with her around how to deal with memory loss being safe and accepting help. It lifted a huge weight off of her since he is realistic but still upbeat and positive. Mom always leaves her regular check ups feeling good about herself and her life as more care is gradually needed. He meets with her , then fills us her children in. this is so unusual among neurologists in my experiences,to show such care and respect for patients and their families. He has made such a difference for her and for me too. Can not recommend highly enough. Worth the waitlist. Great skills and… knowledge.

When I suffered a stroke I found a neurologist who understood that more than my brain and body was damaged, but my psyche too. Dr. Delio is super-smart and diligent. Santa Barbara is lucky to have him.

I had a total of 4 neurosurgeons, after the VNS was implanted in me. (I had to change over, so many times, because, oddly, none of my first 3 gave me any indications at all that they wanted to listen to me.) Dr Phillip was the last one I had before I left California to relocate to Oregon. He was the only one there who had wanted to listen to me. If he'd been contracted with my [former] health insurer, United Health Care, then I'm quite sure I would have stayed there.

Good listener, highly intelligent and well-educated. He took care of me through two strokes and I wouldn't have anyone else.

I took the time to review his ratings and patients comments. The honesty and clarity of the reviews convinced me that Dr. Delio is unusually competent, caring, and trusted by his patients. His patients attest that he is well worth traveling great distances to see him.

Dr Delio was the first neurologist I saw after losing consciousness a number of times and going through a battery of exhausting and painful tests (including a botched lumbar puncture).His expertise, kindness and ability to identify the problem was amazing. Since seeing him, I have moved from the Santa Barbara area and subsequently seen 4 more neurologists---all who (in my opinion) are no match to Dr. Delio. I still consider him my primary neurologist, and do not mind driving the 400+ miles it takes for me to see him. He is truly one of a kind.

Dr. Delio is very nice, positive and caring. He's not full of himself. He's also very respectful of what kind of treatment I want.
