Dr. Ian Martin Crooks, MD

I am a physician with depression. Doctor Crooks adjusted my medication and I have been symptom-free for two years. And the way he approaches patients is superb. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who is similarly afflicted.

My wife has been having some major anxiety problems for the last 12 weeks. She lost grip strength in both of her hands, lost all emotions, was feeling like a zombie with all the various meds, constant tireless anxious feelings, feeling extremely helpless and hopeless. So bad that she has been to ER 5 times along with seeing a number of other doctors including 2 other psychiatrists, 2 family physicians, and an OB-GYN. Dr. Crooks made more progress with my wife in their 1st visit together than all the others combined!! This doctor is extremely unselfish!! -- We have literally spent thousands of dollars in the last 12 weeks desperately seeking some relief for my wife (Besides just being drugged all the time or told to try elsewhere) We went to 3 different Austin hospitals that added up to a total of 5 ER visits and what they did to help my wife was practically zero. (Although my wife was saying, "I can't live like this anymore!" (because of her constant agony), it's a very good… thing that we did not give up or if so, we would have never found Dr. Crooks. -- 5 Stars, no doubt!!

Dr. Crooks has been a great provider for my son who is a college student and struggled with academics due to ADHD effects. Many people don't truly understand how debilitating this disorder can be to the mind but he does. Dr. Crooks wrote a long letter to my son's college academic committee in attempt to advocate for his re-admittance to school after a semester suspension for failing grades. I am sure they would not have re-admitted him without his advocacy because there was a lot going against him. For me this is a rare quality in a provider and I wish there were more doctors like him. As a parent I will always be grateful for this and also his responsiveness throughout his treatment. It has had a great impact on my son's life.

He's very friendly and makes you feel comfortable but my only complaint is that it kind of takes a long time for things to start improving or to have a diagnosis. At times I worried he wasn't seeing the severity of the situation, but he's conservative with treatment so I guess I underestimated how thoroughly he wants to know you before accurate treatment can be made.

I first saw Dr. Crooks in 2012, and I find him to be both very competent and compassionate. He listens, doesn't push medications or make me feel ashamed of my health issues, and has been available during emergencies. The answering service can be a bit flaky at times, but a minor issue. I would highly recommend him.

While Dr. Crooks has a wonderful and kind bedside manner, he returns patient phone calls, and he spends time with his patients I question his diagnostic abilities. Despite several warnings (with evidence) he prescribed and continued to prescribe adderall to a known drug addict.

Dr. Crooks is a great doctor. The folks who answer the phone are evidently unaware that he works in psychiatry. I'm on the edge of a crisis and need to speak to him and the person who answered the phone twice ( I called again hoping I could get a person more attuned to the nature of Dr. Crooks practice) was completely unhelpful and short.

Dr. Crooks was such a find! He is an attentive listener, empathetic, smart, able to propose changes while remaining sensitive to patient concerns. So lucky to have found him.
