Summary
I get this question a lot, so let me answer it here: Yes, I am ethnically Chinese, but I was born in the Philippines. I am very fortunate to have parents who value the importance of receiving an education and supported me through school in the Philippines, all the way to medical school. I went to Texas for my psychiatry residency training and decided to move to California to be closer to family and friends.
