Dr. John Milton Hutson, MD

Dr Hutson is a doctor unlike another. He delivered both my children. I was high risk with advanced age and had pre-diabetes. Dr Hutson was always available. His demeanor is calm and reassuring. He’s seen everything in his decades of experience. Despite high risk I was never pressured into a C section and delivered both my children naturally. He’s simply the best out there.

We felt manipulated, harassed, and traumatized in this doctor’s “care”.   The third trimester was a nightmare. We couldn’t trust him at all. He has absolutely no interest in helping women give birth according to their own wishes, but would rather use his expertise to ensure that every delivery results in his preferred outcome: a scheduled induction followed by a cesarean. He is a “high-risk” obstetrician, and as he enjoys repeating to his patients, “every pregnancy is high-risk” in his eyes. Another one of his favorite quotes is “giving birth hurts”…   If you can read the ACOG practice guidelines for the Safe Prevention of the Primary Cesarean then you know what an awful doctor he is. He has no interest whatsoever in following these guidelines. He instead manipulated us into an induction course that virtually guaranteed a c-section, by shading the truth to suit his preferred course of action.   One example is when he tried to “induce” e.g. C-Section my wife for macrosomia and… cephalopelvic disproportion - because she is small. Per ACOG this is only appropriate very selectively and with very large babies at least 11 pounds. CPD is extremely rare in the modern age and is more a thing of the past when severe malnutrition and hip deformities were more prevalent. Late term scans are notoriously inaccurate. My baby was born under 8 pounds. And I don’t know how well my wife’s hips would support a natural birth because he forced her to have a C-Section by inducing with Pitocin while not ripening her unfavorable/closed cervix. We asked three other doctors on call (Shai Pri-Paz, Janice Kramer and Sarah Yu) for a second opinion about Cervidil, but none of them were willing to contradict their more senior “colleague”. Later we read that per ACOG it was critical and necessary to ripen her cervix prior to induction. But no doctor or nurse was willing to behave ethically and in particular report this doctor for clearly substandard care and malpractice.   He also lacked the basic skill of correctly assessing if her cervix was open sufficiently to insert an IUD. He was clumsy and ineffective and I had to watch my wife writhing in agonizing pain with no anesthetic while he tried to ram this tube into her birth canal while her cervix was only minimally dilated. After agreeing to anesthetic to relieve her suffering, he again tried the same procedure clumsily and unsuccessfully. Public health guidelines in countries like Canada state a minimum of 2cm dilated which means the procedure is entirely inappropriate at ~1cm dilated. We later found out to our horror that If performed incorrectly it can be fatal for the baby.   My wife and I agreed to caesarean surgery because he said that the prolonged contractions were causing the baby pain and exhaustion. But per ACOG guidelines we barely waited long enough. I think this is the card that always results in a woman agreeing to whatever the doctor wants to do. His all-encompassing excuse for rushing every step was his fear of pre-eclampsia, but the only evidence he had to support this so-called diagnosis was high blood pressure readings, which we told him at least five times were almost certainly due to anxiety / panic attack. He refused to to give my wife an opportunity to calm down somewhere away from the triage room, probably because claiming pre-eclampsia suited his agenda perfectly. It led him to administer magnesium sulfate, which drastically weakens contractions and virtually guarantees a c-section (which of course he failed to mention before prescribing). I would note that my wife’s blood pressure was at its highest every time he entered the room to badger us about induction, and also that it came right back down in the initial postpartum phase. Not to mention, placenta pathology analysis was performed postpartum (without our consent), and showed no signs of eclampsia.   Recovery was with serious issues as well. The hospital hires inexperienced, poorly qualified nurses, social workers and pediatricians, some of whom interact in an adversarial manner and even behave unethically. It was obvious that Dr. Hutson himself primed the staff to interact in an adversarial manner towards my wife.   There was no pediatric care from an experienced pediatrician. We only found out that our baby was assigned a doctor when we received the bill. Other patients have reported this appalling experience as well.   The hospital and this doctor make a fat profit from operating on pregnant women even when it could be easily avoided.   Worst of all the hospital refused five times to turn over the medical records, which is illegal. The office notes and hospital medical record only reflect what they feel will protect them from lawsuits. It is obviously one-sided and a lot of factual information that could potentially embarrass them is missing.   I cannot emphasize enough to AVOID NEW YORK PRESBYTERIAN WEILL CORNELL LABOR AND DELIVERY and especially Dr John Milton Hutson.

Dr. Hutson is a knowledgeable doctor who delivered both my grandchildren. He was wonderful!

Dr Hutson is wonderful. I had high risk pregnancies and was referred by my gynecologist to him. He is not super talkative but I didn’t care for hand holding...I felt completely safe in his hands and just trusted him completely. Highly recommend.

He is the Best Doctor out there!

I had two high risk pregnancies - after the loss of a full term pregnancy under another doctor's "care". Can't say enough about how amazing Dr. H is! He was totally focused on every aspect of my care above and beyond the highest expectations.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hutson. He recently delivered our twin girls and has been patient, thorough, and caring throughout my entire pregnancy. He even came to check up on me and the babies every day at the hospital post delivery. He is extremely knowledgeable and well respected in his field, there is never any wait time to see him, and I have never once felt rushed during a visit. I would recommend Dr. Hutson without hesitation to any of my friends and family.

My wife had a very high risk pregnancy, and after bad experiences with other doctors and practices we lucked upon Dr. Hutson's office. The service they provide is exemplary, above and beyond. Wouldn't hesitate to suggest him or his partner Dr. Kessler to anyone in need of a high-risk obgyn.

My wife is a physician, and when we found out she had a high risk pregnancy (triplets), her usual OBGYN suggested Dr. Hutson because of his tremendous experience and quality of care with high risk pregnancies. We received terrific service from Dr Hutson and his staff. His reassuring and calm demeanor was appreciated during the months of monitoring as well as the sudden turn of events when we had spring into action during an early delivery. He is thoughtful and manages realistic expectations during an often intense period of life. We could not recommend Dr Hutson enough.
