Dr. Jalaja V Piska, MD

Dr. Jalaja Piska is one of the best doctors I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. She has a wonderful personality, excellent bedside manner, and truly cares about all her patients—regardless of race. My experience with pain doctors and surgeons in the South Suburban area has been frustrating and, honestly, painful in more ways than one. As an African American patient, I’ve often felt judged the moment I walked in the door. Many doctors would assume I was only there for medication, even when I was seeking legitimate procedures like epidural injections. For nearly two years, I’ve been bounced around—orthopedic surgeons refer me to pain specialists, who then refer me right back, while the Doctors just looks at my MRIs and medical records, admits that I'm in serious pain, but says there's nothing they can do. It’s been exhausting, disheartening, and discriminatory. But then I met Dr. Piska. She took the time to review my medical history, asked thoughtful questions, and explained a range… of treatment options. Instead of jumping straight to surgery (which several major hospitals warned against due to my health risks), she’s working with me to develop a treatment plan that doesn’t involve invasive procedures. She actually listens, and she treats me like a human being—not a chart, not a stereotype. The office is clean, cozy, and beautifully decorated, and the front desk staff is kind and welcoming. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I don’t have to keep hopping from doctor to doctor just to be taken seriously. I’ve finally found someone who cares—Dr. Piska.

Very disappointed. I went in for severe back pain. Dr P was very nice and recommended an epidural injection. I scheduled and had the procedure done with zero improvement. The anesthesiologist called the next day to check on me but I never heard from Dr P. I called the next day and they said she was out of town. I left a message a week later stating I was still in a lot of pain but I received no phone call back. Very disappointing since this wasn’t just an office visit.

The GIRLs that work for Doctor, Piska are very un professional. Today I was called ignorant. Only because I was trying to get an injection scheduled after my very 1st appt. with Dr Piska ai wonder If she know how rude her staff is??? No I will NOT be going back.

After consulting with her for S.I. excruciating pain, my pain level has decreased exponentially.

I felt like I was in an assembly line...and nothing was adressed except pain medication. When a surgeon said I needed surgery she was against it without consulting or running tests. Also, the wait time was terrible. And the follow ups, after waiting up to 55 minutes, consisted of med. refills and out the door.

One of the most caring, and attentive doctors that I have visited in my quest to diagnose my illness.

This is my Doctor of choice if you follow her directions and want to have someone help with chronic pain,but do not want to take any more pain medicine than you really have to 'DR.Piska' is the one I would reccomend.Thank God for Doctors that go the extra mile for their patients. I have a injury of the foot with a plate and screws in it. This injury has change my life on many limitations on my every day life.I feel pain constantly but I am on just enough medication to be able to live with it thanks to this Doctor. Dr. Piska is a four star Doctor with me for doing the best she can on medication and compassion a person endures with chronic pain. Be honest and follow her directions and you will certainly not be disappointed.

Very disappointed in this doctor. Does not return calls. Does not visit patient in hospital and does not complete prior authorizations for prescription despite being given over 1 month notice.

To whom it may concern; I have been going to Dr,Piska for chronic pain for nearly a year and I am happy to say that she has not only worked hard to get my pain under control but has always been straight foward and given me the chance to talk to her on all options to get relief besides using drugs or surgery.Doctor Piska has worked with me on getting the correct combination of drugs which was a long and stressful journey do to my injury and stress that I have endured.I feel this Doctor understands her patients on a professional as will as personal leval and that is seldom found in this day and age to have someone in her profession to go that extra mile. Thanks to Doctor Piska I can do things I was not able to do without extreem pain.I have not been treated badly by her staff or her since I been going there and that makes any Doctors visit a true blessing.
