I have seen Dr. Yousefi before. He has done some great things for me. I don't know why, but he has changed his practice to include men in the OR and doesn't make his 99% female patients aware of that (you never see any men in the office, what would have been a tip off). I had surgery before, and he had an all female staff in the OR, and it went very well. I think he has gotten larger and hired more personnel, and although they work like a well-oiled machine in the OR, there is NO PATIENT CONSIDERATION. They exhibit a callous disregard for patient dignity in the OR, and patients are expected to disrobe in front of everyone in the OR and get on the OR table unassisted. Dr. claims this is for sterility purposes, but I was wearing skid socks they gave me and walked all the way from the front to the back of the clinic in them and got on the OR table. Sterility my eye. He also claimed no one had complained before, meaning this is standard practice for him. Then he said 'why didn't… you say something then'. Right. I was so mortified, I just froze. Was that the right time to complain? When someone is going to cut on your face? I erroneously assumed I was going to be treated with the same care as last surgery. I was wrong. The Dr. suggested I was obsessing about this when I spoke with him about it. Victim blaming is NOT OK. The nurses just do things to you, and don't explain what they are doing, or call you by name. It's 'go here, do this'. Especially the male nurse they have. His bedside manner doesn't exist at all. When I didn't move fast enough and take off my robe in front of everyone, he took my robe off for me and just stood staring at me. He didn't even give me the chance to get close to the OR table and face away from him. He wanted me to take my robe off at the DOOR to the OR. It was a horrible feeling to be so naked in front of strangers. The female nurses in the OR just stood and stared at me....they didn't even care how distressed I was. I just stood frozen, with my shoulders and head hanging down. No one in that OR cared about my dignity, so I gave up and got on the OR table unassisted. I could just picture myself falling….that would have put paid to my dignity FOR EVER. For the little improvement I got, it wasn't worth it. There is no monitoring after surgery. They don't even let you wake all the way up before shoving you out the door into a waiting car. These clinics aren't certified by the Virginia Department of Health at all. I didn't realize this until I started calling around asking about this 'take your clothes off and get on the table' gimmick he has. I think I should thank God I was lucky to not have any complications. Maybe your experience could be better than mine, but I was treated SO WELL before this last time. It's like a switch was turned, and I don't ever want to be treated like that ever again. It has made me very wary of having any more surgery of any kind. I think it would be better to be in a Virginia Department of Health certified hospital or outpatient surgery center. This center is NOT certified to be that at all. It is certified by AAAASF, and when I called them, they told me that there is NO sterility requirement to make patients disrobe in the OR in front of everyone. I realize I might be naked after they put me under, but while I was awake, and being stared at........I think you can do better research than I did and get a MUCH better experience elsewhere. I just don't picture a great outcome if you have to go in demanding to be treated with care and comfort. That should be standard practice, and patients shouldn't have to demand to be treated with dignity.
