Dr. James Anthony Amis, MD

I was a patient of Dr. Amis" for 24 years. He was the fist doctor who truly listened and was very knowledgeable. My case is very difficult to treat, but he did. Numerous surgeries and other care gave me the best result for my ankle. He is compassionate and only operates when it is warranted. There is no other foot surgeon with his knowledge and expertise. You cannot go wrong when you become a patient of Dr. Amis.

Went to him was refered by Dr Bullard.All he talked about was himself and how he knew more that the Dr I had been to for my fracture. Did not want to hear anything I had to say about the lump in my foot, which is very painful and I am a nurse who is on her feet a lot. Left his office with no answers to my problem. Very disappointed plan to let Dr Bullard know of my vist so he does not refer anyone else who has a problem. What a wast of time and money.

One year after surgery and my heel is great. The bone graft harvest site, on the other hand, is a different story. At 12 weeks out from surgery I still had a 4.5cm x 3.5cm (roughly a 2" x 1.5") hole in my tibia...too large of a hole for a bone harvest from that specific bone. Still cannot run, bike, or use elliptical. Thanks Dr. Amis! I incurred $1,200 of post-op medical bills to diagnose and monitor my tibial hole...none of which Dr. Amis would agree to take care of.

Dr.Amis is a car salesman. No doubt he is highly intelligent and helped many people. Be cautious. He is quick to operate. In my case he either rushed then misdiagnosed or botched my surgery. He has basically absolved himself of any responsibility. He found a way to pass me off to another doctor. Just remember he is a talker. Trust you instincts. My instincts were screaming at me after my first appointment. I ignored them because I desperately wanted my problem fixed.

Not a bad doctor, but he will be sure to maximize his billings at your expense, as he likes to do the maximum surgeries possible. He's also got a very curt, sometimes inhospitable manner. His followups are mediocre at best-- he's made his money on your body already.

It doesn't really matter how much a Dr. knows, unless he cares enough to use that knowledge to help you as a patient. I never got the chance to experience what a "great" surgeon Dr. Amis is, because he dropped me as a patient for no real reason told to me. I had prepared questions, and was rushed and waited almost 2 hours at my last appointment. I am not convinced that the stretching helped me, in fact I got much more pain after doing it for several months.I found another Dr., had surgery and my injury was found to be severe. I am thankful that a Dr. eventually cared enough to help me.
