Dr. James Edward Burgess, MD

My first visit I waited 1.5 hours before he came in. Explained my symptoms. He sat typing the enter time. I would ask a question, and he would give 1 or 2 word answers. Stated, "You need surgery." Walked out of the room. The day of surgery the pre op RN asked me what type of surgery I was having, and I stated, "Dr. Burgess said you need surgery." My follow up visit I was the first patient of the day. I arrived 15 minutes early, they called to inform him I was there. He showed up 30 minutes late. I continue to have pain, requested the first appointment of the day. He never showed up after 30 minutes, and they called me one hour after my appointment to ask me to come back due to he was there. One hour after my appointment. Now I need surgery again to fix what he didn't do the first time correctly, and they informed me he's not allowed to do any more surgeries due to he's leaving!!!! Plus I hear his partner is no better, so now I have to find another dr.

The most unprofessional doctor I have ever seen. Does not care that you are in pain and have been for 8 months. First visit on 6/6/17 second yesterday 10/10/17. Gave referrals to Pain Clinic and for an EMG Nerve test. Of course I had to schedule all of my own appointments. What did he do? NOTHING!! Took all of my info from the Pain Clinic with me yesterday. Received my original CDs back in the mail took them back. Said he needed to look at the MRI. I gave him the CD and he went to another room. Upon coming back he said that he could not read it. I showed the MRI results that I had gotten from the hospital. He said that could be any person over 50 years old. He referred all tests but said he had no results. Called for EMG results got nothing. After sitting in the waiting room for 4 1/2 hrs I got in to see him. No kind words. Got irritated when I tried to answer his question. "I can't type and listen to you talking" Quote! Acted like he had never seen me before. All past… info seemed to be gone. Couldn't understand my pain and where it is coming from. Final! "I got nothing for you". you are not surgical. I said okay where do we go from here? I can't live like this. Him, "Get your paper work together and make another appointment. Maybe we will have a pain specialist come." Again, WHAT DID HE DO? Will I ever go back? NEVER. I don't see how he can be called a doctor!!!

Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. Unprofessional, did not greet me, mumbled, left the room to look at my MRI, explained maybe 5% of my procedure to me. Told me he had back pain. Don't think he could physically or mentally do my discectomy. If I thought it possible, someone walking down the street was brought in to be the doctor for my appt. Because the man I met today, surely was NOT one. I should have been leary when I went to make an appointment, I was able to get in the next day. Beware and stay away.

I went to Dr. Burgess with severe pain from sciatica. He was unfriendly and uncommunicative and acted like he hate life and his job. He spent about 25 mins. typing into his computer, saying nothing to me, and then told me I needed to see an orthopedic surgeon and walked out of the room! He offered me no help for my pain and no help whatsoever! I wouldn't recommend him to ANYONE!

Please for your sake, get a second opinion. After a second opinion I was told that the surgery I got was not necessary. My surgery was an hour and a half longer then he previously said. My incision was two inches larger then he stated. Also after my surgery nothing has changed what so ever. Same pain, same misery, but now with a large scar and a pile of medical bills.

2 hours now after my wife's surgery, no contact what so ever. Not from Burgess or any of his staff. I even had to call the Allegheny General recovery room myself to find my wife had been in recovery for over 10 minutes. I was told they would page him, no response from Burgess. An hour later I found and asked a hospital worker where the recovery room was located. She told me I was not allowed to go in. She called the recovery room gave me an update and again paged Burres. Still no contact. In a few minutes it will be 2 hours that I have been waiting. Don't no a thing about his work, so I will let you draw your own conclusion.

Great neurosurgeon, accurate diagnosis. Highly recommended!
