Dr. James Richmond McCarty, MD

On a conference call, BCBS, Dr. McCarty's scheduling staff and myself, scheduled a Preventative Full Body Skin Cancer Screening. BCBS choose Dr. McCarty for me since my dermatologist has retired. Dr. McCarty only asked me to point out spots and did nothing else. Then he started complaining about insurance not paying and doctor's can't make enough money. . . The staff asked me to pay for the appointment and I told them it was covered 100% by BCBS. At this point, they said they don't do preventative skin cancer screening. After many conference calls and speaking to many staff members, BCBS has recording of staff scheduling Preventative Full Body Skin Cancer Screening, US Dermatology Partners staff have confirmed the appointment was scheduled exactly that way and that it was accepted as such. Dr. McCarty says they don't do preventative appointments and that I owe him for a doctor's appointment and he refuses to bill BCBS for a preventative appointment. He refuses to accept… responsibility for their error. His behavior is unethical and dishonest. I'll never go back and I will never recommend anyone to use this doctor.

I felt extremely uncomfortable being around this doctor. Acts like he is too afraid to examine your problem. Very indifferent/negative acting. Easily the worst experience I've had amongst dermatologists. In my opinion, this doctor does not do adequate in depth research before proclaiming the reasons for your conditions.

He is great at all the procedures I havehad. I am five years past the melonoma, good to go.He is sensitive and takes his time withexamining and explaining.

Dr. McCarty is definitely competent but to me he seems rather detached and somewhat bored with his profession. I get the impression he has analyzed his practice to maximize income. If you just want the job done and be gone, he is for you.
