Dr. James Thomas Shafer, MD

I am currently a counseling student and knew seeking a therapist would benefit my growth as a counselor. Dr. Shafer was an answer to prayer. He was kind, encouraging, and wise. For the first time, I experienced a non-judgmental environment to be vulnerable and real. He offered wisdom and hope and pointed out strengths to help me see where I have overcome. He was patient and always checked in to see if we were still on the same team in progress, direction, and treatment. If you get an opportunity to team up with him to improve, process, or overcome areas that are important to you, I would take it.

I came to Dr. Shafer as a last resort to deal with my anger, after years of therapy with different therapists practicing different methodologies I felt that therapy was a waste and I was skeptical but figured that my insurance was paying for this so why not. This was probably the best decision I've ever made for myself. Dr. Shafer's insight and results-based therapy was on point. He isn't very by the book but instead results-based, and what I mean by this is that he knows that there isn't a set formula that works on everyone. He was determined to try everything to help me and he did!

Dr Shafer is without doubt the most professional & effective medical professional I have ever dealt. I a few sessions he helped me resolve issues I have been dealing with for 50 years.

Insightful respectful

Excellent therapist and psychologist. Dr. Shafer makes you feel he cares when he listens and then he provides constructive feedback and ideas that he encourages you to question and think through yourself. He helped me through a very difficult period in my life, and was reasonably available during non-appointment hours to help me in crisis. I am very grateful to have found Dr. Shafer!

Dr. Shafer really cares about his patients. He brings vast knowledge and experience into his sessions. He excels at helping to identify clear problems to be solved and clear goals to be achieved while offering a wide array of techniques to help move toward those goals. He provides highly individualized treatment in partnership with the people he helps. He is an outstanding psychologist and excellent therapist.
