Dr. James Arthur Slavin, MD

My sister was operated on by this doctor. She was not given compression sleeves on her legs to help prevent blood clots. She was not given them until nearly 48 hours following. She was on the birth control pill Yaz and was not advised to stop taking it especially given the lack of use of compression sleeves and it is known to increase chances of blood clots. She was not given proper guidance on how to move to work toward recovery and to keep blood flowing properly; in fact she was advised not to move much and was told if she did she could break bones and may not be able to recover. She was given an ill fitting antiquated leg brace.She returned for follow up visits, complaining of pain and discomfort and was rudely dismissed. At no point during any of the follow up visits at which she complained of excessive pain and discomfort did this doctor conduct an ultrasound which would have been a simple thing to do. This type of dismissive behavior continued right up until her last visit to him… a few days before she took a cross-country flight which she inquired if it would be safe to which she was met with a terse response saying there was nothing to be concerned about.She went on her trip a day later and died when she landed to transfer flights from a pulmonary embolism from a blood clot breaking loose from her leg. Had she been listened to by any knowledgeable medical professional during her follow up visits she would have been given an ultrasound and the clots would have been detected and she would have been put on blood thinners, taken off birth control and told to delay her flight. She was failed, and was the victim of negligence and left a whole in this world and in my heart. You are your only advocate and must take care of yourself, remember that.

He was the best orthopedic surgeon that I could have ever asked for. My son has bilateral atypical clubfoot and dr.slavin always did right by him. The staff there are also phenomenal. My son who is now 7, has been to this office since he was 5 days old, and they treated us just like we were their own family members. They were just as excited as we were to see my son walking! We miss you dr.slavin! We still havent found anyone good enough to touch my sons feet yet.

After months of pain on my knee and hip and back, he examed me and took MRI on my knee. Even though I told him the pain on my hip or back might be the trigger to my knee pain, he insisted there was nothing wrong and there was nothing he could do about it. 1+ years later, the pain made me unable to walk, work, and do anything but bed rest. Thank GOD I found a good doctor. He did x-ray on my knees and hips, bone scan, MRI on my hips, as well as blood tests, then found I have OA and aggreesive RA. Also, MRI on my hips (Dr. James should have done a year ago) showed tissue edema, labral tear, ligament tear, and ischiofemoral impingement etc. Dr. Jame's mis-daignosis and poor bedside manner made me missed the treatments in the first year of my sickness, which caused unreservable damage to my health, my work, and my family. I am now temporily disabled.
