Dr. James Callen Tyson, MD

I am a 68 yr old woman, Dr Tyson has poor bedside manners and demonstrates no empathy. And to no surprise, his staff is just like him. I contacted Dr Tyson to share my feelings before I posted this but it’s been over a week and I have heard nothing from him nor his staff. I will gladly take this review down if Dr Tyson calls me to discuss what happened to me. I went to see Dr Tyson because I was experiencing a painful lump in my throat. The symptoms had gone by the day of the appointment but I went in for the appointment just to be sure nothing was wrong. I waited for over 45 minutes. Not once did anyone let those of us, who were waiting, know how far behind Dr Tyson was. It’s understandable to be behind schedule but if you care about your patients you could show some professionalism and provide those waiting with a status periodically. When I was asked to go into one of the rooms, an aide with a long probe asked me to lay back. Without explaining anything, she put the probe deep into… my nostril and sprayed something. It was awful and painful. l It irritated my throat very badly. When she saw my reaction, she asked me what was the matter. I told her it hurt and really burned my throat, she replied “It’s not supposed to”. She offered no apology nor suggestions on how to treat my obvious discomfort as I was clutching my ‘now’ irritated throat. Dr Tyson came in and I explained what had happened and how uncomfortable his aide made me feel. He never apologized and just started his examination. He then said, in an almost in a threatening yet humorous manner as he was putting on his gloves, “When you see both gloves going on, you know it’s not going to be pleasant” What terrible bedside manners!!! Now I was even more terrified. After a few minutes of examination, he told me that I had “reflux’ and asked me to start taking OTC Omeprazole for 14 days. I knew this was the wrong diagnosis since my husband has had acid reflux for over 20 years and my symptoms were nothing related to acid reflux. And to merely recommend Omeprazole was unprofessional and uniformed. Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole can be very damaging and should not be recommended callously. Needless to say, I didn’t take any omeprazole and the symptoms I had experienced, which was the reason I set up the appointment never returned.

Been going to DR T for the last 9 years and he has always helped me with my sinus issues. I think he goes the extra miles to find the cause and treat it.

This doctor is rather rude, doesn't listen, and is super rough. He grabbed by tongue and it felt like he was yanking it across the room. I would not visit him again.

THIS IS A TERRIBLE GROUP OF DOCTORS. NEVER GO TO VA EAR NOSE AND THROAT.IT IS RUN LIKE A ZOO AND AND THE WOMAN AT THE WINDOW WAS ASKING ABOUT PAYING A CO PAYMENT AND INSURANCE. VERY UNCARING.THOSE DOCTORS LOVE MONEY

These so called docs run a very cold and rude practice. They have a mega practice and are the most unprofessional doctors in the area. I would not refer anyone to these guys. Im being very serious or you will be sorry!

Agree with previous reviews. He does not listen. Talks a lot without ever giving advice or answering questions. Visit was for my teenager and Dr. Tyson was very non-chalant in coversation adding "you're losing your hearing", "your're going to be wearing hearing aids". Very alarming to a mother, but he never offered any diagnosis as to why, just "it's treatable". No further diagnostic testing to determine a cause - "come back next year". How can you say it's treatable if you can't tell us why it's happening or if he will go completely deaf. Seeking a 2nd opinion, the nurse asked more questions before we even saw the doctor than Dr. Tyson ever did.

He does not pay attention to what you are saying or listen to ALL of your symptoms and if he did I would have the wrong diagnosis. He was wrong!! I even left a message for his nurse that things were getting worse and NO ONE returned my call so I ended up in the ER!! Find a different doc the most important thing is that they listen to all of your symptoms. Hope this helps! :)

Yes, he is from New York, rather abrupt but decent. Spends more time looking at a computer screen than interacting with me as a patient. Overall, not bad as a doctor but not the endearing sort.
