Dr. Janet Susan Philips, PhD

Major Red Flag Warning: many individuals who go into becoming therapists themselves primarily go in the field to help themselves primarily as they are mentally sick themselves. This is definitely a classic example I’ve seen in this profession with this individual. I’ve seen Ms. Phillips off and on for about a year or two. Only towards the end of our time this year did I finally ask her what diagnosis she had given me. When she told me what she had decided, I realized that it was the incorrect diagnosis of me which also contradicted the diagnosis that my psychiatrist had given prior to me even beginning to see her. Even when I had multiple conversations with her about how important it is for her as a professional to be on the same page as my psychiatrist from the very beginning seeing her two years earlier, she still refused to change the diagnosis to that of my psychiatrist’s diagnosis. It’s unfortunate I had to go through what I went through with this individual. … But, On the larger scheme of things, I am concerned that this woman is continuing to misdiagnose other people she is seeing and being intellectually inflexible about it if/when people find out. This is a major red flag in any therapist who would not be recommended to see. Choose someone else to do therapy with, if you wish to go the therapy route. Hi his person violates your trust on several different levels, which is very unacceptable in any therapist. Additionally, I find really interesting that I was the first to review this individual ten months ago originally. The other reviews of her were written all exactly five months after mine. It’s not surprising to me that some of these individuals like this woman put some of her patients up to writing reviews about her after the fact to try to offset my honest and accurate review about her... Ms. Philips was also very unprofessional on many other accounts and levels, which was another reason I did never see her on a regular basis. She often would cut me off mid-sentence, and would do most of the talking nonstop for 15 minutes at a time! Right?!? Unbelievable. On a few occasions she also acted like she was a nutrition expert, and this is not even what her degree is in in the first place. I even have the text messages to prove this where she would constantly insist on pushing the keto diet on me, despite the warning signs I would give her for stepping out of her scope of practice. (For the record, I have my masters in nutrition and am at a healthy muscle mass and percent body weight already). I would go see another therapist who listens a lot better and actually diagnoses correctly. Lots of red flags in this individual.

Dr. Philips is an extraordinary human being, one who is truly dedicated to her life’s work, and cares deeply for those who seek her guidance as a Clinical Psychologist. She has a wide breadth of personal experience and professional skills, and these enable her to confidently treat and assist in healing the many varied, troubling, but human issues brought to her. Dr. Philips is friendly, very compassionate, and, at appropriate times, can bring balance with her wonderful sense of humor. She allows her clients to lead the way, and then has the ability to create that most unique, sought-after, therapist-client space, where trust and sharing of innermost thoughts and feelings brings newfound understanding of past and present. The speed and depth with which Dr. Philips can mirror a painful memory or new awareness is remarkable! She patiently perceives and communicates what she sees, hears, and experiences in her client’s session. Dr. Philips dips into a wealth of anecdotal stories,… carefully selecting and imparting them at relevant, meaningful moments, and shares how their lessons have been helpful in her own life. Over the last seven years, Dr. Philips and I have walked my rocky path together, she, shining a light on important elements that help me understand more about myself and the world around me. I’m certainly not finished, and therefore, look forward to continuing this life-enriching experience with her nurturing, abiding presence.

I have been seeing Dr.Philips on and off for the last ten years, during these years she has been there to help when I have had life-altering events. I was emotionally overwhelmed and struggling with my feelings, such as my father who recently passed away, she is currently me through my grieving process, and depression and I started seeing her when I was dealing with my divorce. She always has and remains to provide me with a safe, conducive environment for addressing all of these changes and transitions. From each of my tragedies, she has helped me learn and grow, and she has been a God sent. Her professionalism and personalized approach made her the one that I go to and yes I have sought out other therapists before Janet, and none were as empathetic, direct, and extremely knowledgeable.
