Dr. Jared Brian Gaines, MD

On first day of Baker Act hold, said he had to hold patient full 72 hours because it was the law. He said he could not shorten this time at his own discretion but had to do what the police had said. This, after multiple nurses told the patient that the doctor could decide to release the patient before 72 hours. Nurse then told patient to sign request to leave in 24 hours. 24 hours later patient was told to sign another form to rescind request to leave or doctor said he would hold patient an additional 72 hours on top of the first 72 hours. Patient was told if patient rescinded request then patient could leave in another 24 hours. At the threat of an additional 72 hours and assurance of just 24 more hours if patient rescinded leaves, patient signed to rescind leave. Patient was then released 24 hours after rescinding (approximately 60 hours total). After release, patient learned that this threat is not allowed. Patient is following with complaints to appropriate agencies/departments.… Other games were played as well, which were too complex to outline here. Seems from other reviews online that this doctor threatens additional time in a coercive manner as normal practice.

Jared Gains, the doctor, prescribed me medicine without seeing me first and/ or discussing with me what type of medicines he was trying to pump into me. Which is illegal and immoral. When I finally met him he told me I would leave the next day and he then threatened to extend my stay since I wasn't saying what he wanted me to say. He wanted me to match what the others wrote about me when I knew exactly what I said since I was smart enough to never accept the drugs they were trying to drug me up with, I still had my wits and brain together. I will now and forever be my best help, this man is a dangerous doctor that should not work on HUMANS. Even the actual therapist who did the 3rd round of “what's our goal” group session was unprofessional. There was a point where the ones that weren't totally drugged up were the only ones awake in the room and we all didn’t want to speak. She then assured us “what we say in this room stays in this room”. She lied of course and totally tried to mix… up my words (a pattern at this facility and the hotline). In the session she asked us to close our eyes and then open them and imagine a world without our problems, what would it look like? What I said criticizing her methods was “What you are saying is fantastical thinking. No one should ever just close their eyes and just imagine things going away. Everyone needs to learn how to manage their problems.” When the doctor, herself, and some other nurse was in the room she broke her assurance and said “In the group session” Which I interrupted and said “I thought what happens in the group sessions stays in the group sessions?” She then just says “Oh well I meant the hospital.” No she didn't, she's a therapist, it’s their job to carefully say what they need to say, she even said so herself when someone asked her what they should specifically do with their career. She then told the doctor “She said she wants to learn to manage her emotions and her problems.” When I started to clarify that I was actually criticizing her silly close ‘your eyes and imagination’ methods the doctor started to get more and more testy. It felt like I was arguing with an ex boyfriend and his friend is just egging it on. I wasn’t even the only one with these experiences. Others also told me the doctor threatened to keep them if they didn’t comply with what he wanted them to say. This whole thing was just to get money from my insurance that they discovered and billed before I even got admitted.

Dr. Gaines was supposedly my treating physician during my self-referred stay at the Pavilion/JFK in fall of 2014. I checked myself in on a Friday for depression and suicidal ideation. As I was sobbing uncontrollably, I waited for him while he talked with the other patients on the ward, then he walked right by me as if I didn't exist and left. I didn't see him until Monday as I was being discharged. Needless to say, I received zero therapeutic care while I was there - the Pavilion is essentially a holding tank where they max out your insurance and then send you on your way. When I met with him, it was in the courtyard - not even in an office. He stood there intentionally trying to bait me into an argument. I knew enough not to argue back or he would likely find a reason to keep me there for being disruptive or something. I didn't take the bait and thankfully got the heck out of there. It was the most UNTHERAPEUTIC experience of my life. Clearly, I am still traumatized by it as I am… writing this review 5 years later! This doctor is a charlatan who just wants to get as much money from you as he can. AVOID him like the plague!

A close minded buffoon. No understanding what being severely depressed is all about. Empathy is useless, like being attended by Mr Rodgers. Overmedicates at the drop of a hat.

Dr Gaines was crucial in helping my family get through a crisis. We will definitely consult him in the future if need be.

Tells the patient one thing and writes something else in medical records. Does not listen to patient. Makes things up as he goes along. Need to go back to medical school. STAY AWAY. Does not help only makes things worst.

While Dr. Gaines is okay, his office staff is HORRIBLE. the waits are long, and they have nothing but attitude. they are not willing to help you anything, ESPECIALLY billing issues. Unfortunately I would NOT go to this Dr just because of this reason alone. STAY AWAY!
