Dr. Jason Isaac Lifshutz, MD

I was seen by him post surgery at Good Samaritan where another surgeon performed my multiple coiling surgery. I had just been discharged from the TBI unit and Lifshutz was assigned to oversee my post surgical care. I had to call him for appointments repeatedly when the surgeon had told me when I needed post operative scans. When I called him several times for my appointments at different intervals per my performing surgeon, his staff whom I've not met in person called me "Honey". She doesn't know me, I'm a post TBI/SAH patient who is still suffering from aphasia at this point. Lifshutz calls me to tell me I was rude to his staff! The nerve of this man. How can a person who is recovering from a horrific TBI/SAH be expected to be A: Patient with staff who is patronising? B: Why does the patient have to call so often to schedule an MRA when the performing surgeon wants it? I eventually asked that I have another Dr make the appointments since I shouldn't have to deal with a man… who has the nerve to call a patient who is recovering from Stroke/SAH. He called me rude. Aren't you supposed to be a professional who understands that patients recovering from SAH/Stroke has difficulty with words? Hey Honey, aren't you supposed to be a professional? Calling your patient out for your staffs inability to communicate is not the patients problem. Calling a patient of any age, any gender, for any reason "Honey" is patronising and insulting. That is unless you have a relationship of some kind with the patient. I had my PCP take care of all future MRA's and told Lifshutz to go away. I would never recommend seeing him for any reason. Also, I've never met a surgeon who has shoes that are so rough and worn. Being that I was in bed at the hospitals recovery ward, pumped full of meds I could only make out his shoes. Later on when I saw him in person, no longer pumped full of drugs, his shoes were still in the same dishevelled state. I thought surgeons prefer cleanliness and appearance and take pride in how they present themselves. To call a patient and accuse them of being rude, making your staff "cry" is beyond ridiculous. If his staff works with brain injured patients everyday. Not all of us have the language ability to be polite all the time. I wasn't being rude, I was asking him to do his job via his staff. He called me back within the day. Meanwhile i had been trying unsuccessfully for days to have him return my call, this is when I was called "Honey". I'm sure that member is no longer working for him by now. The level of training he gave his staff is indicative of a surgeon who is doing the bare minimum. How dare you call me back and "defend" your staff had you done your job, I wouldn't have had to call so many times. 14 years later I remember my shock of being called by my assigned neurologist for post-op care only to be interrogated by him. I gave a ranking of "Fair" to be kind. He himself isn't particularly bad. His priorities are wrong. Patient first, staff second. The man is a joke.

Hard to get into see, but good Dr.

Dr lifshutz is a great nero doctor he operated on my back about a year ago and did a great job. he is always positive and just tells you like it is, on the down side i have to have another surgury, results from another problem. his office staff at valley medical is another story trying to get through on the phone is a nightmare. i find his staff in the office does not have a clue to what there doing as far as getting paper work summited. and when you question them about it they want to argue with you about it and tell you they know what there doing but they dont. they are the worst staff i have ever tryed to deal with i wish he had never left stanford in los gatos.

unprofessional, unreliable, unqualified

Great surgeon & above all a caring human being.Hope it does not come to that, but if a friend would ever need a NS, I will recommend him.

When the worst thing in your life happens to you-your husband falls off a ladder and dies-you take some comfort in knowing that the medical team did their best. Dr. Lifshutz not only has an outstanding reputation as a brilliant surgeon, he also has an incredible bedside manner. When he told me my husband of 26 years was brain dead I felt sorry for Dr. Lifshutz too-he was almost crying. He operated for four hours and I really appreciated his frankness and honesty with me. All of the nurses in the hospital and my attorney (who knows him) agree-that he is a special man.

Dr Lifshutz performed emergency brain surgery on my husband Rich. He was so caring, professional and comforting I want to donate to his charity. My sister is a nurse at Ucsf and she was also very impressed with his demeanor. I recommend him to the highest level possible

Excellent communicator that is truely concerned about his patients.

Very thorough in examination and in explanation of findings; very compassionate and sensitive to patient and family.

Dr.L was is as compassionate and caring as he is skilled. He follows up with your case and doesn't just forget about about you after you are done with your surgery. He even gives out his private cell # to patients he feels need extra care. He really goes the extra mile. This is a doctor with a brilliant career ahead of him, but he'll never get an ego because of it it - his heart is too big.
