Dr Schafer is very personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. He answers all of my questions thoroughly.

He's the "perfect" doctor: knowledgeable, friendly, down-to-earth, and always prepared for your visit. He really LISTENS to everything you say, and he allows you to be a partner in your treatment options. His explanations are easily understood, but not "watered down." He takes plenty of time with you, and never rushes through an appointment. He's a true gentleman and a WONDERFUL endocrinologist! I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I am a type 1 diabetic who has a tendency to binge eat. Then of course I would feel guilty for eating all the food and not want to eat when I had low blood sugar later on. Glucagon would save me until I could eat again. My old endo, Dr. Chelliah, balked at how I was using the glucagon. She laughed at me and not in an endearing way. She offered NO SOLUTIONS other than maybe to take my drivers license away. And she certainly wasnt going to keep giving me glucagon. And I needed that glucagon script to save my life. All we did was argue back and forth through out the whole appointment. She did not want me to be a partner in my care. It seemed to me, She wanted to use her authority as an endocrinologist to take my drivers license away if I didn't follow her exact orders. So I just got rid of her. I had to wait 2 years until I could find another endocrinologist who might try to help me. Finally I found another more holistic minded endo....Dr Jason Schafer. He didn't take my glucagon… away. He gave me a free style libre. This device neutralized the lack of control I was feeling and it helped me plan out my eating patterns better. This meant I no longer needed to rely on glucagon in the same way. He offered me a solution to my problem unlike Dr CHELLIAH whose practices were far more barbaric. so i am pretty happy with this doctor, SO FAR. its always best to try to work with patient and let them be a partner in their care rather then club them over the head and laugh at them.

Dr Schafer is terrific. Very human. Listens well. Open minded. Lets you participate in your care. Doesn't rush me. Calls me at home with test results. I couldn't be happier. I'm an older woman and I like the way he treats me.
