Dr. Jayashree C Veliyath, MD

I'm very disappointed in this doctor. I scheduled a routine annual "Wellness" visit, which is free. However, she coded it as an office visit, which means I had to pay. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in that visit that was outside the parameters of a "Wellness" visit, not even close. When I called to inquire about this, the office manager said, according to the doctor's notes, it wasn't an error and suggested I call Abigail in their billing department. I left multiple messages with Abigail, but she NEVER called me back. This fits the definition of billing malpractice. I have reported this to the Georgia attorney general's consumer protection division. I recommend that you avoid this doctor's office, since money seems to be their primary concern.

Dr. Veliyath is probably the worst doctor I've ever had. There are photocopied signs up all over her office that indicate that there are fees for copying patient records, etc. This should be indication enough that she is only interested in getting as much money from her patients as possible. Also, when talking with her, she clearly believes that she's far more intelligent than you are. Furthermore, after an appointment at her office, the front office lady said she was going to print up a receipt of everything that was done during my visit - only to find out when I got home & looked at the paper, that the information was for ANOTHER PATIENT. On another occasion, when some blood work came back a little high, she recommended an expensive sonogram to make sure nothing was wrong. Diagnosis? No problem. But now I have a huge bill for the procedure. She could have redrawn some blood and repeated the test, but she sure did have no problem recommending me to a very specific office. … Also, after I had made an appointment several weeks before, her office called to cancel my appointment. When I couldn't come at the rescheduled time, she went ahead and charged me a no-show fee of $25, with a 5% addition every 30 days the bill is late (just so you know). It's absolutely within her rights to do that, but she doesn't HAVE to if she doesn't want to. Finally, because I hadn't been able to get to her office (surprise, I have a job), she has refused to refill a blood pressure medication prescription, which I'm pretty sure is unethical. The fact that Dr. Veliyath obviously feels the need to nickel and dime her patients indicates two things to me: first, she is preoccupied with collecting fees from patients, instead of their care; second, she might have a hard time retaining patients over the long run because of her abysmal bedside manner. My advice is to stay away from her. I've never been so dissatisfied with a medical professional.

Dr. Veliyath is very professional. She makes medical decisions based upon what she thinks is best for the patient. Her receptionist however is not friendly. She uses little discretion when discussing concerns with patients, even when other patients are within a listening ear.

My experience with Dr. Jay Veliyath was excellent. I took my elderly mom to her on a recommendation, and she was caring, professional, thorough. We did not feel rushed in any way, and she diagnosed my mom's problem easily and quickly. I am strongly considering changing from my doctor to use her. On a scale of one to ten, she is a 10!

Dr. Veliyath is very thorough, alleviating having to come back for additional appointments.
