Dr. Jeanne Blair Novas, MD

31 years ago Dr. Novas was my gynecologist. I still remember her bed side manner.. she was to the point and told it like it was supposed to be told to me. I still think of her when choosing a doctor. I do want to apologize to her.. When I was in the delivery and as soon as she walked in she walked to me to assure me that everthing was ok.. I grabbed her and put her in a headlock and said get this out of meeeee!! LMBO!! Sorry Dr. Novas... I am was so sad when I found out you couldnt deliver my daughter. She had just left the practice at St. Joseph in Elgin Il 2 mo before her delivery in 1993. Thanks Dr. Novas and Im glad to see you are still practicing.

I have been a patient of Dr Novas since 2007 and she is outstanding. She is extremely professional and a fantastic gynecologist

Ten years ago I went to Dr. Novas for my very first gynecologist exam. I went to get birth control in anticipation of my first time-- and I was waiting until I got married. I was inexperienced but wanted to be responsible. Dr. Novas was very scornful and condescending-- like she assumed that because I had made this choice, I was some prude idiot. I still remember her telling me, "You know it's going to hurt a lot, right?" (By the way, this is an incredibly harmful and incorrect attitude to perpetuate about first time sex. It might be uncomfortable but it isn't supposed to be painful.) I went in a couple months later because I was having pain during sex and it wasn't improving over time. My husband and I were both very emotional about this, because we just wanted to enjoy our time together, and the pain was making that impossible. Dr. Novas told me to "have a glass of wine and relax." Assuming, of course, that I was still this repressed prude, when actually I...am a human being with… ample sexual desire in a healthy, loving relationship! Thanks for that assumption, Dr. Novas. My road to finding out what was wrong was longer than it should have been. I have a chronic pain condition known as vulvar vestibulitis, and I have been seeing physical therapists and a pain specialist for a few years. I am much better off than I used to be and my pain is extremely manageable now. If I had been treated well by my first gynecologist, maybe it wouldn't have taken me so long to get to this place, and maybe I wouldn't have had such intense emotional upheaval when I was first trying to explore sex. In my experience, Dr. Novas is rude, unkind, and unwilling to look beyond her own assumptions to see that there is actually a medical condition that requires her attention.

I went in for spotting, did and ultra sound and the whole time she was rude treated me like I didn’t know anything. Couldn’t find a fetal pole so instead of explaining things she told me to expect a miscarriage and she can give me a shot to miscarry my baby. Than left the room and gave me a pamphlet. She was the most cold rude doctor I’ve ever met.

I have a large pelvic mass and saw many Gynecologists who, I think, were afraid to remove it. I saw Dr. Novas and immediately she agreed to do my surgery. I see patients do not like her. They think she is not friendly. If you need to be friends with your doctor you must not have many other friends. Dr. Novas removed my tumor and I feel good again. Thank you Dr. Novas!!

I had my first official prenatal appt today. After undergoing many rounds of fertility treatments, I was released to my OB practice. I absolutely love all of the doctors at this practice except Dr. Novas. When I called to schedule they said they only had her available. Gee I wonder why? She was 1.5 hours late for my appointment and then got defensive when I expressed my anxiety over that. She also got mad when I said I wouldn't be able to have labs drawn because I had to get back to work as I had already been at her office for a total of 2.25 hours! She did a quick ultrasound and said the baby looked good. When I asked what the heartbeat was measuring she said "uh, like in the 150s." That was a total lie because she didn't even measure it! This practice had a policy that you must see all four doctors during your pregnancy, and I'm glad I won't have to see her anymore!!

I saw Dr. Novas for the first time, after having a Mirena IUD inserted and removed by her colleague, Dr. Dohr. My appointment with Dr. Novas was for my annual exam. My experience with Mirena was honestly just awful. I experienced increasingly debilitating joint pain in my fingers, elbows, knees, and back. By the time I connected it to the IUD I had had it for almost a year, and the pain was so bad that I was taking meloxicam and waiting for my appointment with a rheumatologist. As a last resort I had Mirena removed. Two days later my pain completely disappeared and has not returned. I am Med and pain free! I thought that this information was something that I should share with my doctor, so I did. Not ONLY did she say that my experience was so rare that it "isn't worth mentioning", but she then said that "although there are many complaints by [her] patients of systemic symptoms, there is no hard evidence that the hormones travel outside of the uterus." I was flabbergasted. I will not,… under any circumstance, be returning to her for so much as a paper cut.

I trusted this doctor with my life and now my deceased babies life. She promised me everything was going to be ok but instead she yelled And cursed at me during labor and when I kept bleeding she didn't care and told me to stop crying about it. Then when I cried saying my baby is coming out she didn't care until my daughters head was out and her color was black and blue. My daughter didn't even cry or take a breath and then there was no heartbeat. My baby died because of this doctor.

Dr. Novas is the finest Obstetrician I have ever had. I have had several babies with other doctors and she is the BEST!!! I did not need my doctor to be my friend. I needed my doctor to deliver my baby and keep us both healthy.

I have read the back and forth and have one comment. If you want to be friends with your doctor and hold hands Dr. Novas is not for you. If you want your problem solved and want to get healthy again, she is. Dr. Novas knows her stuff. I just don't think patients know theirs anymore. This is not the lonely hearts club. Get a boyfriend for that. If you are sick and want to be well, call Dr. Jeane!
