Dr. Jeffrey Derflinger, PhD

I saw Dr. Derflinger for about 5 years and I really do think he helped save my life. I (28 F) really enjoyed having a therapist who was so patient with me, understanding of my feelings, and there for me when I needed it the most. His demeanor is always calm, he makes his office very comforting, and he would even take late night calls if I was having a hard time. He really is one of the most brilliant people I’ve met. He helped me learn how to set boundaries with people in my life, he helped heal my PTSD symptoms with EMDR, and he taught me how to understand my emotions. I couldn’t be more happy with the time I spent with him and would recommend him to anybody who is looking to start therapy.

When I was provided Dr. Derflinger's information, I was looking for trauma informed Psychologist that had a Christian background. During our initial call I was hopeful that I found the right Dr. However, during our first session I quickly realized that something was off. As I began sharing my current situation and why I was looking for a therapist, he abruptly interrupted me and told me he was not himself and that he thought he was not a good fit for me. I asked some more questions to gain clarity related to his feelings and quickly regretted asking him anything. He then started name calling and kicked me out of his office after slamming his papers down. I don't know if something happened with an earlier client but I've never experienced this type of behavior from a professional and licensed Dr. I was truly taken a back by his reactions, unprofessional approach, and overall demeanor. I would caution anyone with Trauma needs to ask more questions and make sure it is a good fit before… entertaining Dr. Jeffrey Derflinger. I do not believe he is a good fit for anyone that has trauma needs. If anything, my experience added more to my trauma. I walked away with the impression that he is not stable enough to deal with trauma victims or domestic violence topics. He also reframes talking points and makes it about him and his comfort level. Very odd considering I was going to him for my own needs and shared in our initial intake call my concerns and goals.
