What ever happened to Patient Centered Care when the family asks you to be there for support in the room and kicks you out of the room? Is this a Doctor Centered Model???? My client has been having multiple complex medical issues and so I have been coming to all his Medical Appts with his mom to understand what is going on with my client to determine how to best support him. As we walk into the examination room we see the doctor in his office eating his food, the nurse was taking the patients vitals and then left the room. The mom was on the phone and then the nurse comes and tells us “Everybody out except for mom”. I walk out confused thinking the doctor needed to talk to the patient privately or exam him and I will be called back in. I go to the front desk to ask if I will be let back in because the mom and the patient wanted me in to sit in with them and if I’m not allowed back in I can leave and go back to my office instead of wait around. She stated the assistant will come and… get me. Nobody came, but my clients mom came out and asked where was I and what happened, I had explained that the Nurse kicked us out. She stated they are finished now... The doctor or nurse did not ask why I was there or who I was to the patient but just dismissed us. Apparently the doctor had a rule of no other people in the room?? That isn’t his right that’s the families right to decide who comes in. Does he feel he isn’t competent enough to speak in-front of others?

I had one appt with him. explained the heaviness and weakness progressing in my legs. He had no suggestions or comments. Had me get blood work done, and threw me away til lab work came back. I still don’t know when that will happen nor do i have an appt. The experience was a total waste of time. I have contacted HMSA to report my my anger and resentment over this, and that I will not pay the co- pay nor for the lab work unless I hear differently from him. I don’t want to speak with an office staff, only directly from him, Dr. Miles

I have been in healthcare for over 30 yearsI We took our family member to him after understanding that she was suffering from a rare and serious disease of her nervous system. He was very nice and agreed to rule out or in, our i nternet diagnosis supported in testing previously run by her PCP who sent us to.him because of the same fear. we met him next 2 visits and he was rude, dismissive. He ran some token tests and told her to come back months later We were clear he did not want to take on us dumb Hawaiians .. We flew her to the mainland where she had a spinal tap by a resident neurologist(kid) who admitted to hospital for 20 days preventing total paralysis. . Our Island already lacks most 3rd world services this doctor only adds pathetic care while kind on the surface. Book a plane ticket and not an appointment with this Queens Hawaii Medical School Professor? PhD yes PONO he not. Aloha

Seems to be more concerned about helping the insurance companies than helping his patients.

Wait time is a bit long, especially as they lock you into one of those tiny cubicles without any window. He's the second neurologist we consulted, and he is far more knowledgable than the other was for our particular diagnosis: myasthenia gravis. He's a good listener, and spends a lot of time with his patient - in our case about 15-30 minutes per consultation. He suggests possible treatments but strongly emphasizes that the patient must decide which of the suggested treatment suits the patient's lifestyle best. He is also very friendly.

Miles is good at what he specializes.It is difficult to know everything.Went in with COMPLEX REGIONAL PAIN SYNDROME, CAME OUT WITH AIDS TEST --GO FIGU ...
