Dr. Jeffrey S. Yoshida

Dr. Yoshida uses state of the art testing and treatment techniques, and is best of the best in his field of expertise! He is kind, caring, patient and explains things thoroughly.

I went to Dr. Yoshida because I was worried about the outcome of radical prostatectomy surgery. He shared his own data on outcomes and how many surgeries he has performed. I was 100% functional just one week after my surgery. His follow up has been great for several years. I agree the staff is not as nice as Dr. Yoshida but who cares - this guy is the best and most experienced uro oncology surgeon you can find in Southern CA.

Amazing rudeness and incompetence by office staff but that was overshadowed by the butchery shown by Yoshida. Following his improperly performing a radical prostatectomy I was referred, by him, to a surgeon that could correct his actions. Following the reconstructive surgery (urethroplasty) I now have recurrent prostate cancer, emanating from cancers left in the pelvic region. A terrible experience with this doctor and his staff.

Dr. Yoshida is fantastic; however, his staff lacks follow-thru, friendliness, and caring. Be prepared to wait on hold for +5m for any phonecall (answered, THEN told to wait). Be prepared to wait long after your appointment time to be seen. Be prepared to do your own follow-up, as the staff do not meet the commitments communicated. Be prepared that the girl setting up follow-up appointsments doesn't care, doesn't engage, and seems so disinterested, you end up apologizing for bothering her. Dr. Yoshida will take time to go over every aspect, answer questions, and has a general sense of calm and caring. THAT part was the good experience..the remainder is most unenjoyable.

I am a medical professional, and called the office to discuss a patient’s orders. I did not speak to the physician directly. The medical assistant I spoke to was alarmingly condescending and incredibly rude. The patient was on the fence trying to decide whether or not to fire this physician, and after she overheard the phone call her choice was practically made for her.

I hate to leave a bad review especially because we weren't able to even get an appointment with Dr. Yoshida. The receptionist was really something else. You call, no one asks you to be put on hold. It goes straight to music for about 10 minutes. I called and asked to make an appointment with Dr. Yoshida and was turned away because he doesn't accept urology patients, only oncology patients (which I am confused about because he's listed under our insurance as Urologist). Anyway, after that, I just heard a *click, she just hung up. No, thank you. No, have a nice day. No, sorry. She just hung up. I hope one day you have a sick loved one and someone treats you the same way. I saw a previous review in 2016 about how rude she was, but overlooked it.

I am now a little over 4 weeks post Prostatectomy surgery and wanted to share my experience. I could not be happier with my results and Im extemely grateful to Dr Y for his skill and dedication to providing the best possible outcome for each of his patients. I am 61 years old, physically active and in good health. My cancer was still in early stage (Gleason 6 with two spots of 7 - 3+4). Loss of continence was my biggest fear. In my case, I was a little shakey but functionally continent immediatley after the catheter was removed. Now at 4 weeks out I consider myself about 90% back to normal, and have no doubt I’ll make it to 100%. I am so happy with my choice of surgeons! A word about the staff and program; The main receptionist, Remie, has a sometimes thankless job. I can only image the difficulty in dealing with Men, many of whom are type A personalities, that are feeling scared and vulnerable. She does it well with her calm demeanor and quick smile (I too thought that the office was… just being difficult with regard to emails and records. But in the time leading up to my surgery I learned that medical offices all over the country are are adjusting to HIPA rules that are the cause of this problem). Then there’s Sandy, the Nurse/Navigator. She set up a meeting with my wife and I in a private room, just the 3 of us, where she explained in detail what to expect at each stage of the process. She was compasionate, professional, and answered all of our questions. She also gave us her direct cell number, and said to not hestitate to call if we needed anything. We were also sent to a specialty physical therapist, who taught me how to perform proper Kegel exercises leading up to and after surgery. She too was very professional and stressed the importance of pre-op conditioning to regaining continence. Finally, there’s Hoag Hospital. Each patient gets a private room. Since my surgery was in the afternoon, I ended up staying a second night. All of the various staff treated my wife and I quite well. But I will always remember my night nurse, who showed remarkable empathy and compassion. She is a true Angel on Earth. Hopefully this information will help. I considered this decission to be one of the more important ones in my life. Thank goodness I got it right!

After poor experience with other urologist I tried Dr. Y. After 18 mo, I am pleased with his efforts to manage my BPH condition. He is careful with diagnosis. He did numerous tests and identified the issues, explained my options. So far no surgery, so can't comment on that. But I am pleased and will stay with him. Some dislikes; Dr. Y does not use electronic records. His staff is not friendly. Communications is not great only phones, not email, no online data. Staff does not every recognize you or seem to care. As long as Dr Y is treating me well, I will put up with is unfriendly, un-caring staff. I have told Dr. Y about his front desk problems. He says he will work on it.

I recently had prostate surgery performed by Dr. Yoshida, I was very impressed with the amount of time he spent with us before making the decision to have the surgery. My interaction with the staff is the reason why I rated him with 4 stars. My first appointment after the surgery was a week after the surgery. Nobody on staff asked how I was feeling, even when I mentioned to the Medical Assistant that I wasn't feeling very well, she still didn't ask how I was feeling. I just came away with the feeling that the staff (including the office manager)just doesn't really care of their patients.

Dr. yoshida , and his program at Hoag hospital were fantastic. I highly recommend him for anyone going through Prostate cancer..
