Dr. Jelyn Wein Lu, MD

I would not advise victims of sexual abuse to see Dr. Lu. Not only did I have to retell my story twice ("Weird, why doesn't it show on my record?" "I don't know, I told you and you were typing." "Okay can you tell me what happened again?"), but she asked super inappropriate questions. The questions had nothing to do with my health and even though I was visibly annoyed and short, she pressed on. Questions like "Were you drinking? Did you text him back? Was he a good guy? Were your clothes already off?" I finally said "What does that have to do with anything?" and she said "Well, it makes it easier." Also, after I explained what happened, she said "Oh, so you knew him... Date r@pe." As if my experience was less important because it was "date r@pe." I 100% understand why victims don't seek medical attention, it's already traumatic reliving it. And then you get doctors like Dr. Lu who just completely miss the mark. I even sent an email afterwards telling her how uncomfortable I felt and… disappointed to which she called back and began TALKING OVER ME. I had to ask her, "Are you calling to apologize or are you calling to defend yourself?" She kept saying, "I asked those questions to gauge your mental health." You literally asked me if "he was a good guy" and whether or not my clothes were on or not. PLEASE avoid this doctor.

Highly recommended doctor. She has been our primary physician for 10 years now. She shows that she care.

I am not a fan of Kaiser and had many bad doctors, but Dr. Lu was probably the best doctor I have ever had. I did not feel rushed at all and she spent a lot of time with me. She explained everything thoroughly. She listened to everything I said.
