Dr. Jennifer Lynn Jothen, DO

I honestly do not understand how anyone could give this doctor more than one star unless it's a personal friend. I had three, very negative experiences with her when I took my mother with Parkinson's to see her. She was always late, and would arrive in the patient room texting on her phone. She was rude and demaning, and when I asked a question her response in front of my mom was "why do you care? Your mom will never remember this conversation." Sadly, my mom did understand, and she left in tears and was so embarrassed about her illness. This doctor lacks empathy, and has zero concern for her patients or her patients feelings. Eventually someone will report her to the Medical Board, because there's no way she can continue her practice in this way. My mother passed away last April, but the affects this doctor had on me have stayed with me and I don't want others to go through what my mom and I went through. Thankfully, she closed up her practice in Coronado. Update: At her new… office, she no longer takes or post reviews. What does that tell you?

I LOVED Dr. Jothen. She has treated me for seizures and migraines for several years. I moved out of state and my insurance allowed me to travel to see her...I did this four times per year. On my last visit in Dec. 2020, I made my next appt for Feb. I drove 6 1/2 hrs EACH WAY, walked into the office and stood there in total shock. The office was empty...of everything. No furniture, computers, staff...all just gone. I called the office number and was referred to another clinic...voicemail only, no live person. I left SEVERAL messages. I didn't want to leave CA if it was just that her office had moved. I continued calling all of the numbers for the next couple of hours...FINALLY, someone answered. I was told she took a leave of absence. I asked why I wasn't notified. I was told, "they should have sent letters" Umm, no "they" didn't. I was also told that her patients were being referred to the "neuro-clinic". It shows on my phone as Dr. Friedman. Oh gosh, NO! I had him before Dr.… Jothen, hard pass. Anyway, the office person told me to come in for a consult. I explained I was not going to come back for a consult and then back again for my treatment. She said we could do a telehealth for the consult...then, she asked what kind of insurance I have. I told her ChampVA/Tricare. She said, "oh, so sorry...we don't take that". So, thank You, LORD my primary care is AWESOME and took over refills for my seizure meds. For those of you who take seizure meds, you know you can't just stop them...it can trigger status epilepticus or any number of truly awful things including SUDEP. I am now looking for a new doctor for migraine tx. I hope she is OK, I just really wish the staff would have followed up with patients. I managed a medical facility for 15 yrs and we moved twice; I sent emails and contacted all patients who had upcoming appts. It doesn't take that much time and since your patients depend on you, it is the right thing to do. I gave four stars ONLY because of this episode. If I had done this rating 6 months ago, I would have given five stars.

I never saw Dr. Jothen, she was too busy, her nurse practitioner was amazing. But up and quit without notice and right in the middle of my care and waiting for MRI results I had to find a new neurologist. This office is run so poorly. When I first arrived the nurse practitioner was having to answer phones and schedule patients because the secretary quit without notice.

Worst "Dr." on the planet! She is horrible with staff and even worse with patients. I had 3 horrible experiences with her, never again. please steer clear!

If you care for your health run away from her my wife went to see her and Dr. Jothen dropped the ball.

Dr. Jothen is amazing! I was referred to her by my PCP for migraines and intermittent peripheral neuropathy. She asked detailed questions about my symptoms and additionally ordered an MRI. I really appreciated how thorough she was. She explained treatment options clearly along with advantages and drawbacks to each. After explaining each course of action she asked how I would like to move forward with treatment. Dr. Jothen was caring and professional. Nurse and office staff were excellent.

Dr Jothen is very nice and thoughtful. She has been treating my mother and now she is treating me. We just love her.

Awful experience. Cannot believe she is still practicing.

Does not have a clue what she is talking about! Spent 10 min with me about a problem that I was not there to see her about and then walked me to the door with pat on the back. What a waste of my time!

I am a Navy veteran who waited for 2 months for an appointment. On the day of the appointment I called to say I would be two minutes late due to traffic - I got voicemail. Arrived at the address - Dr's name is NOT on the directory. Called 5X - Voicemail. Got to the desk three minutes late for the actual appointment. Waited 75 minutes before being placed in an exam room. 15 minutes later the doctor comes in, does NOT introduce herself and says "I need this room. I have to stay on schedule. You have to leave". So I did - AFTER paying my co pay. Horrible experience.
