I went to MSK because I was told it was the best. It was not the best for me. I did not know the different surgeons were in competition with each other as separate private practices. I was told by MSK they were collaborative not competing with each other. I was not given complete information. I was given information that ran counter to the American Cancer Society. I was not told there were tests which pre op could significantly diminish my percentage for the risk of spread. I was not treated as a human being. I was just a number on which they could profit. If you have an obscure cancer then MSK might be for you. I pray for all those who find themselves in such a situation. But if you have a rather common cancer that can be treated at a hospital in which they see and respect you as a human being rather than another body so they can rack up yet more bread and butter surgeries, don’t accept MSK’s scare tactics. I was told if I did not sign up for surgery now there was another… woman in the next room that my surgeon was going to see and that patient would take my operation date slot. Wow- talk about trying to close a deal and not care remotely about the cancer patient. Do your research and pick the best care for you. Do not be seduced by the MSKCC brand alone.
