Dr. Joel Marvin Bernstein, MD

I had been having chronic sinus issues for a while and went to Dr. Bernstein. He told me he saw no sinus infection. When I further explained my symptoms, he told me I had GERD, because of the vomiting. When I have great volumes of post nasal drip, it causes me to vomit. He said he had never heard of such a thing. He then recited all his degrees. He finally caved and ordered a CAT Scan. When the results came back, he had to admit that I indeed had great pockets of infection in my sinuses. He started talking about surgery. I listened. Then I asked if there could be any other treatment besides surgery. He blew up and said, “oh, you come to me for help and now you don’t want my help”! He is the most obnoxious, arrogant, pompous Dr, I’ve ever been to. He is rude and dismissive. I was very sick the first time I saw him. No bedside manner at all. Avoid like the plague!

I recently went to Dr. Bernstein for an independent medical exam because my case is a worker's compensation case. For anyone that doesn't know how the system works let me explain it. In my case working for the same employer for 36 years as a fleet technician I have serious hearing loss. Large companies and there insurance companies don't want to pay for workers injuries or will pay as little as they are forced to pay by the courts. There insurance carriers have deep pockets and high priced lawyers to fight you so they don't have to pay. The doctors are mostly semi retired or should be and also up in age! They are paid by the insurance companies to perform a evaluation to dispute what your Dr said. If they 'go along with the insurance company , there future IME exams will be curtailed or stopped all together. There findings are then sent to the judge in charge of your case, in hopes of swaying the judges opinion to benefit the insurance company. It is a crime that this is allowed to… happen, but it all starts at the top and that is Andrew Cuomo cutting costs at the expense of the worker who chose to stay in this state and pay taxes for 36 years. Dr Bernstein was not only rude, but arrogant and no manners that a Dr should have, another words he is in it for the money!

The Man should retire. Talked about himself and how he won't use his Bi-Pap machine because he believes he's inhaling the same air. Totally misdiagnosed my condition so he could get his Workman's comp check.

He has been treating my wife now for about 8 months. He is the most compassionat Doctor I have ever met. He gives you 1005 attention when he is with you, explains everything thoroughly, puts technical terms into understandable layman's terms. I know he is in his 70's; I pray he stays healthy for a lot more years.

I saw Dr. Bernstein yesterday for a vocal cord problem,my wife and 18yr old daughter tagged along for the visit. I have never,in my life, seen a doctor or his staff as friendly,personable and knowledgable as this medical office.My wife and daughter concurred,from the time we entered this office til the time we left,it was the most pleasurable med. visit either of us had experienced. This dr. has to have 40yrs exp. but you would'nt know it looking at him. He is in tip-top shape. I would describe this man as someone you would love to be the grandfather of your children. If he was a family physician,i would have switched to him on the spot. His entire staff was reflective of this. I am confident I will never meet a Dr. like this again. I guess there are still good old fashioned caring Dr.'s out there,but good luck finding one,I was lucky!

Dr. Bernstein is very compassionate, and he takes the time to explain in DETAIL what needs to be done to improve your medical issue. I hope he never retires! We need more doctors like him.

First, I waited 2 hours in the waiting room and it was empty. I mean literally, I was the only person sitting in there for 2 hours. Then, I finally saw Dr. Bernstein and he was awful. He was rude, very argumentative, and did no diagnosis. That's right, he refused to diagnose and refused to treat me. I've never had such a terrible experience at a doctor and have never met a more miserable person.

My son has seen Dr. Bernstein off and on from the time he was 8 months old til he was 25 yrs old. He is very thorough, patient, and caring. He even does follow-up calls to make sure everything is ok.
